Default Courtyard Villa Mowing

Are other CYV owners satisfied with their lawn maintenance vendor? We chose a very popular one but have been dissatisfied with uneven mowing, high ‘stripes’, lack of trimming along walls & around donuts & drainage grates. At least part of their shortcoming is using a wide stand-on mower that cannot mow the drainage-curved part of the backyard. We’re in Hammock @ Fenney, don’t know if earlier villages’ CYVs have similar curvature for drainage. Recommendations other than for the company that rhymes with ‘beans’ would be greatly appreciated. Thx!

yeah, a quick search will show that there are very few "popular" (ie. large) services that are good, or sty that way. Our first year was not bad, then they started having lots of churn in employees and every week the yard came out different.

Now, 4 services later we may have a keeper. We tried hard to find an individual, not a company with "teams". After a couple no shows we found one that seems to be good.

Lawn care in TV is one of those things some do for themselves, but being retired and not poor, many prefer to pay to have the lawn done. With over 80,000 residences, this leads to lots of big companies with bean counters pushing for more lawns per day and paying as little as they can get away with - recipe for bad stuff.

Deans doesn’t cut in our area but I use them for bugs and fertilizer etc. They are very responsive if we have any issues.

Check with your neighbors or talk to others working on your street. Landscapers like to work within neighborhoods and try to limit their coverage so those that work up north generally don’t work down south.

Not in a CYV but we are in Hammocks of Fenney and we use Deans for everything and have been very happy with them so far.

I would recommend Scott Layman Lawn Service 352-661-3362. He only uses true walk mowers, not the heavy stand on type. He mows, trims, blows when finished, does great work and is very reasonable. He does quite a few lawns in the village of Fenney as well as many other villages south of 44. We have been using him to maintain our rental villa in Monarch Grove for over 2 years and I have never had to call him with a complaint or problem. He will also do cleanup and landscape trimming. He is not licensed for chemical application so he does not offer that service. Give him a try, you won't regret it.

Landscaping is a problem all over the villages.

We are now going on our third one in just over two years.

Hopefully this one will be a keeper.

As posted by others lawn mowing services are a pain in the neck. In 9 years we've had three different ones. One went out of business and suggested a replacement who was even better than the first. In peak lawn growing season he just disappeared. We always paid at the start of a month. He took the check and cashed it before disappearing. We are now on our third guy. His work is the worst yet. This is actually the first time in my life that I did not mow my own lawn. At one time in high school,
I started and ran my lawnmowing snow shoveling business. Perhaps, it is time for me to do my own?

The pros simply cannot, not mow your lawn when it is wet from the rain or twice a week when it is growing fast.

I always cringe when I hear the lawns around me being mowed after a rain and the grass is wet. That definitely is a no-no. But, as you say they gotta cute their quota or get fired.

I'm not the original poster. That comment is certainly valid. We of course do not know the whole story.

Possibly the op just wants a list of potential replacements should they speak to their current mowing person and be told they do not want to deal with them any longer.

DO NOT USE DEANS - they are horrible and if your a snowbird they stop mowing when you head north! I know because they did that to me - pics I received proved it to them!!
