Advertisements are why this paper is only $1.00 a week. I get my news online as it is much more current. I do agree with you it is not the NY Times but a little good news never hurt anyone. There is plenty of bad out there if you look just a little.

I can think of several papers I would want before the NYT. And I read the hard copy DS, as well as about 6 news sources/papers on my iPad every day.

I like The Daily Sun but these articles offend me as a human being who does not believe in killings of humans for any reasons. In my mind it is nothing more than another form of violence. If they feel they absolutely have to bombard us with this "news" it would be nice if they relegated it to a blip of an article, placed somewhere far away from the front page.
I was surprised at that front page. I couldn't reconcile it with Florida's Friendliest Hometown. So I turned on Wesh 2 News.

The folks saying that the paper has no news ...... Are you skipping the front page A section? It's filled with national and international news every day from Associated Press reporters.

Once you get past that and Sports, then the paper is basically all Villages news.

Are we not getting the same paper??

Also a tip for some:

If you're really into reading about the DUIs, drugs, robberies, car accidents etc. look inside the Local section. The day's police news is in there.

Or look at the online paper. That makes up most of their daily report.

An interesting project would be for someone (anyone) to post a new thread every morning about what they think about that day's page 1A (only) and then see what others think. The next day a new thread is started. What do you think?

Nice little paper with lots of good local news! If you don't like it cancel, don't complain and run it down. Just cancel and move on.

I like the Sun. It is a way to have a cup of coffee without all the negative things going on around us first thing in the morning. At my age and physical condition, their is little I can do to change the world other than voice my opinion at the polls, and so I put my faith in the many services like police, hospitals, fire dept and more to protects me. The Sun is doing exactly what a retirement community morning paper should do. There are multiple sources for enjoying negative news reports.

I understand people may not like the content of TVDS. However using TVDS's lack of in-depth national/world coverage as their reason for trying to dismiss it as a poorly conceived/managed/operated newspaper shows a weak understanding of the purpose of my home town newspaper.

Don
absolutely!
anyone who reads it should immediately recognize it's value as a local organ dedicated more to current villages events. if you expected more, well, after reading it once you should have known what it was, why did the OP subscribe to begin with?

As Rubicon said, the Daily Sun helps to bind the community together, and I think in that, they do an excellent job.

grandfinch and villages florida:

You are kind hearts and your concerns are well appreciated. However in today's technologically advanced 24/7 hyperbolic information environment it is near impossible to avoid being confronted with unwanted news.

I have tried to avoid speeches or events involving people whose name alone provoke me but alas something or someone will bring it to my attention

I thought about becoming a hermit but I suspect my wife wouldn't be too obliging?....maybe its hubris on my part and she would?

We need people like you in the world because you remind us of the importance of humanity and civility.

Personal Best Regards:

I love the Daily Sun since it's almost free.
Great TV news and love that the real news (AP) contradicts the op-ed page daily. I have online subscriptions to real papers (Fla Times Union and O-town Sentinal) for real news
