Default Keeping garage wall from damage

Any ideas on how we can keep hanging tools/yard equipment from touching the garage walls?

We just painted the garage and would like to keep the walls clean for as long as we can

You lost me there. If you hang them on the wall they will touch the wall or you can tape up a sheet of painters drop cloth under them or put up a shelf and just lay them on the shelf or buy a 6' multi-shelf rolling rack and put them on that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe I am misunderstanding your request? You could also probably hang them on an extended hook 6" from the wall but then you will waste garage space and/or walk or drive into them.

I installed a slat wall. It is a little expensive, but provides a lot of flexibility for storage, and looks good.

Buy a piece of plexiglass from Home Depot and attach it to the wall with drywall anchors.

Talking What I did ...

I'm old fashioned in this area. I used a 2 X 4 with 16d nails for each tool that needed to be hung. Some I was able to drill a hole in the top of the handle and a 16d finishing nail. Slip the tool handle over the nail.

Down low where the tool would touch the wall I screwed another 2 X 4 to the wall so the tools would stand off the wall.

Painted each to match the wall and that works for me...

I put hooks in my furnace closet and hang them in there.

Clean them before you hang them and be careful.

Sell all your tools and yard equipment and get someone to do all your outdoor and indoor work. No problem. Keep a small tool box on the shelf.
