Or it you really think it unsafe call gas company or plumber.

Yes, in Florida, licensed plumbers are qualified to work on natural gas lines, meaning they can install, repair, and maintain them; however, they may need additional certifications depending on the specific gas line work involved.

Iron and steel pipes and their threads rust. So it goes, regardless of the origin. I read the numerous responses … The best fix for rusty metal (from years of using it) is POR 15. Wire brush the threads, paint on the black POR 15. Three coats. Use a search engine to find it. Available in quarts or six pack of small cans. Pricey. Do not get it on your hands. Avoid the fumes. Leftover material is useless unless the can is perfectly sealed after use. I transfer leftover POR 15 to a small glass jar sealed in plastic for preservation for future use. Commonly used for car frame, car rust restoration. The best stuff available. I wear a respirator and gloves when using it. Good luck rusty metal restorers.

I have owned hardware stores all my adult life. Almost no iron pipe is produced in the US. It is my understanding that the galvanized (not rusty) pipe in the picture is not code compliant. Gas piping should be black iron, which will rust, not galvanized pipe as seen in the picture. That rust will not cause a problem for at least 50 years but if it bothers you go to Ace or spar and get a bottle of Rust Reformer, put that on and paint over it.

If you have plumber come out, suggest you also replace the water heater gas pressure regulator.

The ones installed are poor quality and prone to early failure.

Finished steel comes from the US and Canada, semi-finished as well as finished steel is imported not only from China but Brazil, India, Japan, and several other countries. There are very few factories in the US that produce steel from iron ore.

I have that too, months after I moved in. It's just surface rust. Scrub it with a wire brush and then put some good paint over it.

They are using different materials in newer builds, my 20 plus year old gas line fitting connection has no surface rust .

Well said. That’s not severe corrosion. It’s a standard coating of protective rust.

My condo in Cincinnati is one of 110 unit complex. Piping from the water main to house definitely was sourced from China. 20 year old mark condos are seriously leaking. Average cost to repair each unit exceeds $10,000 (pipe runs under driveways). Special association assessments make condos hard to sell. Already had first for $2,000. Many more to follow.

A lot of auto parts are now from China. Ford just announced a recall of thousands of vehicles because of a defective 12 volt battery from China.

I recall in my northern home that the gas fitters once showed me that it was required for them after installation was complete to paint all exposed steel on gas piping to pass code.

I see no actual corrosion, only rust.

Well, that’s debatable?

Quote from Google AI

“Rusting is a part of corrosion and is a chemical process which results in the formation of red or orange coating on the surface of metals. Corrosion can occur on different surfaces such as skin, wood, metals, etc. Rusting usually occurs on surfaces of iron and its alloys”

Can’t say you right or wrong? But in this instance I believe you are right

According to this correct!

if you've ever purchased from a different country, you will find a much more well made, higher quality product. Germans are great for clocks and tools, Pakistan/Egypt are known for thick and longer lasting textiles. i will deliberately search for items NOT made in China-what a difference!!
