When I go to pick up my mail in santiago there are a few people walking their dogs with no baggies to pick anything up. Infact, last weekend I was sitting on my lani (corner house) when a woman with a large dog on a leash let her dog squat on my lawn. I had a fit when she started to walk away. I jumped up and yelled to her but she just kept on walking. Are we supposed to hang out plastic bags on our property for these ignorant people?

There is something serious wrong with me. None of my neighborhood dog friends pee or poop on my lawn. A couple of them have their owners drive them over to visit with us and they give a nice paw and try for a couple of kisses.

I felt that I could join the critics of pups here when Helene and I were coming into the neighborhood a couple of days ago and we spotted a woman in a golf cart with three dogs we didn't know and we didn't know the woman. We live in a contained neighborhood of 53 homes and everyone knows everyone. She had them on leashes walking around our mail kiosk. I was ready to join the throngs of angry folks, nope, I didn't know her. She wasn't one of our neighbors. She did have a bag and removed the offending stuff.

Later I found out that she is a hired dog walker and one of her charges was Prince, a poodle that I do know.

I am so glad I don't have to feel disappointed or miffed.

no. that's trespassing. shoo them off face to face. if it happens again, issue written notice not to trespass. if it happens again, call the sheriff's dept to arrest. I love my dog, but she isn't allowed to pee in your yard.

thanks for those sites. I have a female dog and I get it why her urine is more caustic. She has been easy to train to go in pine straw, but your sites reinforce the OP's point that overdosing the mailbox plants with urine is harmful to shrubbery. Thanks, I didn't know that.

If I might add another point... Now that veterinarians are advocating neutering male dogs by age 6 months, a lot of them are not lifting their legs to pee. Therefore they're peeing like females, by squatting. Their urine is thus just as concentrated as that of the females.

We had one dog neutered at 9 months. He lifted his leg half the time and squatted the other half. Tended to mark on walks. We had our current dog neutered at 6 months. He only squats to pee. Never marks, either.

This is just anecdotal, but something to think about.

This has been exhausted in previous post. What more can be said? There are dog lovers and a few dog haters that do not know what they are missing not having one. Again responsible dog owners do not let their dogs destroy property of others and pick up after their dogs. Most likely 98 to 99 percent of owners. The 1% seem to upset and spoil the image for the rest of us.

The first 10 to 15 feet (depending on your village) of the yard from the curb is not your property. Look at your survey.
