One of my mom's favorites. Another example of a Top 40 to "Adult Pop" crossover hit.

Did Mary Hopkin ever have another hit?

I did not know that until earlier today. After I posted that little bit of the song, and waxed nostalgic for my mom because she liked the song so much, I checked out the Wikipedia page on her.
I was not surprised that Apple had signed her, but I was more surprised to learn that Paul McCartney had produced that record along with her LP and I think her next LP as well.

No wonder it did so well. That boy did have a knack for pop tunes.

I guess you missed out on Frank Zappa and the Mothers. Zappa's debut album came out when I was 5 years old, in 1966. He was known for his complete, total, utter irreverence, avant-garde style of lyric poetry, and - oddly enough - playing a bicycle as a musical instrument as his very first televised performance on the Steve Allen Show in 1963. His shows contained a generous amount of vulgarity, occasional screaming, and random drum-beats that didn't coordinate with any particular tempo. He was also a musical genius and a fan of Igor Stravinsky.

We have choices in life. We can live with expanding minds, or we can die in myopia.

Did you actually think the music you grew up with would be the ONLY music they would play?! I grew up with Motown, disco and the beginning of rap——what you call “crap”. Fortunately for me, my parents exposed me to ALL types of music, which I have appreciation of.

YES!!! I can't wait. Every time I hear them say 50s at 5, 60s at 6... I say "and 90s at 9". I would prefer it at 9 am though. I go to bed in the 9 pm hour!

My main complaint about RAP is that those that choose to listen to it want everyone else within 10 blocks to listen to it also. Why is it always 'blaring' from a vehicle with someone trying to look like a 'gangsta' driving?

I don't care what you listen to, but give me the courtesy of not having to listen to it. Use headphones or keep the volume to a reasonable level. Thank You

Just to make you feel a bit older... Michael Jackson would have been 64 this coming August... And Prince? 64 in June...

I’ve often wondered if it’s some sort of mating call.

With the current retires I believe they are just trying to appeal to all of the market that they service.

I get tired of heading the older stuff from the 50’s. I grew up in the disco days. Just remember that our retirement community Has changing demographics.

That's not a complaint against the genre, but those listening. There's a difference.

Default Alright Stop, Collaborate and Listen!

"Ice Ice Baby" by Rapper Vanilla Ice was the first-ever No. 1 RAP single on the Billboard Top 100 in 1990.
A 55-year old villager was in their early 30s in 1990, and this was their party music! Oh, the times they are a changing!
BTW, Vanilla Ice is now 54 year old.

Learn to use your phone or your computer to listen to music. You can use Pandora or YouTube to find the music you like and listen to it all day long for free or if you are a prime or Amazon member by an Alexa device for $30 and ask Alexa play 1940s music etc

To the OP, just a thought. Get yourself an "Alexa" for your home. Ask her to play a song you like, then tell her to add it to your playlist (Name it favorites) Then ask her to play another and another....... when you have all your favorite songs...... Just say, "Alexa, play my favorites" and voila...... no rap.
