I was hoping I was not alone on this subject.
When I rented a place in the villages that did not have a DVR I did bring along my Apple TV.
You could also use chrome cast. Both of those are easily portable and allow you to mirror from your device to your TV provided you have Wifi which most units do have.
There is clearly no better way to watch sporting events than with a DVR.
