Okaaaaay. So we should just sweep it under the rug and not say anything? Sorry.....I just don't agree with having to squelch what is on our minds. It was a concern when we saw the area. Then to find out about the prison so close. We saw it and it gave me the creeps! Then to find out there is a quarry that is shaking up the neighborhoods when they blast. Yikes!!!

Oops....sorry. I guess I shouldn't have said these things.

I hate to admit it, but I've peed in lake Sumter.

But, but what about all the drug users and sex offenders living in your village? I think I read that somewhere...……………..

Haven't heard that one before...any proof or link(s)?

Bean simply commented, and gave her 'opinion,' on what she has personally seen (as well as what everyone else can see, even if they have a different opinion on it)...not just making up lies or rumors.

The Villages (plural) of Fenney is situated west of The Villages (plural) of Southern Oaks and consists of 1,048 acres allowing for 2,504 single family homes, 400 multi family homes and 150,000 SQ Ft of commercial space. No confusion here.

We closed on our house in McClure this past December. Haven't heard any blasts from the quarry or loud speaker announcements from the prison and have seen no prisoners walking around the neighborhood. Yes it is a bit inconvenient not having a lot of restaurants to choose from but that is why we own a motor vehicle. Eventually those retail businesses will come and build in our area. The wife and I don't eat at the restaurants in the Town Centers, they are too expensive for the quality of food offered. We much prefer the mom and pop independent restaurants. We aren't "shop till you drop" types so the lack of "shopping" in our area is irrelevant to us. We have very quick access to the Turnpike and I75.

As far as the Southern Oaks area not having the true village experience, what is the village experience? For us it is the cleanliness and orderliness of the area that The Villages encompasses. We tell friends all the time that it is like living in a park, the flowers, shrubbery, and palm trees all well kept and maintained. There is no trash on the streets and no "antique" car collections setting on concrete blocks in the neighbors yards. We have great neighbors we enjoy our time with. Where we lived in Tennessee we were less than 10 minutes from a large shopping mall and dozens and dozens of restaurants so it that the Village experience also?

When we made the decision to buy here we were looking at previously owned homes but discovered that these homes offered less at a higher price than the new homes in Southern Oaks. As shopping and nearby restaurants were way down on our list of needs/wants it was a no brainer to buy new. The mail station and swimming pool are about 100 yards away and Warm Springs Ave. is about 1/4 mile. The walking paths in the area are quite scenic with views of the conservation area and the wild life living there. To the original poster, decide on what you want where you will live, visit the area and then make your decision.

The “previously owned homes offered less at a higher price than the new homes” also sell at a higher price and there are reasons for it. I bought one of those. But what counts is what YOU value and it sounds great that you are happy with your choice and that’s what matters.

Thanks for the clarification.

What villages make up Fenney and what villages make up Southern Oaks? There isn't delineation like that in the northern villages...... not that I'm aware of.

When we had our lifestyle visit about ten years ago, we were informed about the many miles of multi modal paths and the system of tunnels and a couple of bridges for golf carts. We were also informed there were over 100 restaurants that were golf cart accessible. We were told there are health care modalities available via golf cart: doctors, physical therapy, radiology, dentists, hospitals, etc, etc......all golf cart accessible.

That is what The Villages lifestyle is all about for us. They had us from the start. We had no chance of not purchasing our first home here. The lifestyle was that important to us.

On our Lifestyle visit, the most important things to hubby and me were: where to get fresh delicious groceries, how we will get along with the potential neighbors we met at the pool, and for me personally, Barnes and Noble had to be close by. How large the house was, whether it was stucco, did the lanai face North, etc was not very significant.
It was the first visit for my husband and the real test for me was if he was okay with “The Villages concept” I already knew TV from visiting my relatives many times and dreamt for a long time of being here.

Everyone has their interpretation of the "lifestyle". I've explained ours and it is what appealed to us.

It is called an opinion..

Remember, NOT CONCLUSIVE. If an opinion is deemed conclusive, then facts need to be given to substantiate that conclusion.

Bottom line is that if someone does not share your opinion, that does not mean they have an agenda.

Fenney was the subject of much discussion from the very beginning, and as any Village, requires potential residents to decide based on their own judgement. Now, all of those judgements will not fit yours or mine. Going beyond 466 was a matter of discussion over 15 years ago.

Bucco, I agree mostly with what you are saying, but I believe there are those who post on TOTV in general and within this Fenney thread, who voice more than an opinion and do have an agenda.

Their agendas are tongue-in-cheek or by innuendo, but they are there and obvious and real. This is my opinion!

Changing the subject back to the Fenney area, one has to admit that the look there is a 180 from the rest of TV. It is more of a country feel and more refreshing and natural. Those who bought there like the more casual setting and the newness of the area and the people. If it's good enough for them and they love it, that's all that matters.
