I hate to admit it, but, I really haven't tasted much difference between the fish and chips served at the sit down restaurants and a fish sandwich and fries at McDonald's or Wendy's. Wendy's fish, when available, is very good. And, the cost is about 75 percent less.

The fish is beer battered haddock. The fries are regular square cut fries. Smaller than steak fries, but not thin fries.

I like fish, but fried fish all seems to taste the same. I don't like it when the crust falls off of the fish when you eat it. I definitely prefer Wendy's fries to most of the fries they serve at the sit down restaurants. And, I am never impressed with the cole slaw at any restaurant.

Just returned from eating fish and chips in Leesburg this evening at The Brick and Barrel and must say that I enjoyed it. I will return!

Most fried fish in The Villages is not worth getting. It's all the same, and varies from terrible to OK. The main issue is that it might be good one week, and when you go back, it's terrible the next. O'Shucks is the most consistent, fish is more on the OK to good as opposed to terrible.
If you're up for a drive, the fish and chips at Half Wall in Deland is the best I've had in central Florida. We've been there twice in the past month, and it's been very good both times. They have seasoned fries - not thick steak fries, nor thin shoestring fries, more like Wendy's fries, but with a seasoning on them. Prices are very reasonable as well. 76 beers on tap! While you're in Deland, there's also a great brewery there called Persimmon Hollow. Fantastic beers and great atmosphere! |
