Because Rolling Acres is in Lady Lake and Lady Lake has banned LSV's outside of Villages' and private property. Not sure why they're allowed to cross 441/27 and not Rolling Acres but they are. Wonder if it has something to do with the fact that 441/27 is a county/state road?

Regardless, I wouldn't cross Rolling Acres in any type of a golf cart or on foot. People who drive through that mess are insane!

Florida Statute 316.2122

Operation of a low-speed vehicle or mini truck on certain roadways. A low-speed vehicle or mini truck may be operated only on streets where the posted speed limit is 35 miles per hour or less. This does not prohibit a low-speed vehicle or mini truck from crossing a road or street at an intersection where the road or street has a posted speed limit of more than 35 miles per hour.

The rest of that statute states:

(5) A county or municipality may prohibit the operation of low-speed vehicles or mini trucks on any road under its jurisdiction if the governing body of the county or municipality determines that such prohibition is necessary in the interest of safety.

(6) The Department of Transportation may prohibit the operation of low-speed vehicles or mini trucks on any road under its jurisdiction if it determines that such prohibition is necessary in the interest of safety.

So Lake County does have the right to prohibit LSVs. Besides, I don't believe that section of Rolling Acres is technically an intersection. If it was, there would be a pedestrian crossing. Regardless, there are safety concerns... even when trying to cross in a car.

Texan is correct, but timing is always the key issue on political issues. Given today's political climate on spending, this would not be the time for making it happen. But, when the economy stabalizes, job growth occurs along with tax revenues, then we can approach local government and state officals with a proposal for crossing that street via golf cart. We have some outstanding local representation at the State and Federal level who could get it done.

The project would have to be done by a control point (Traffic Light) or bridge/tunnel. Big $dollars$, but with tax incentive breaks, Green Grants, a developer could be pursuaded to make it happen. I think it would be a great move on their part and for TV.

Last week I saw a street legal (I'm presuming) cart cross 441 from Avienda going towards the "historic" side. Had to wonder "if" that was truly legal.

A street legal cart can legally cross 441 at any intersection. But they cannot drive on any street that has a speed limit greater than 35mph.

There is a huge safty issue that will keep golf carts from crossing in that area. The powers to be were not thinking straight when they put the entrance going into five guys. That intersection is a death waiting to happen. One someone gets killed something will be done. Traffic is extemely heavy and going in at least 7 directions within a 500 ft area. I see in the future a closing happening. As far as a tunnel, that won't and can't happen either. It was talked about at the Lady Lake town meeting and was researched. If you want information or to make suggestion you MUST go to the Lady Lake town board meetings. The Villages has nothing to do with any of it. The Villages would rather keep you in their own plaza.

Boy Howdy!!! We make an effort to never leave the plaza onto Rolling Acres road.
