Default Getting Ready!

This week I bought my first set of golf clubs (used since I'm just beginning), tomorrow I will buy a golf bag and now I need to take some lessons. Does anyone have a good teacher to recommend for a true beginner? I was the last one picked for any kind of sports team in school but I still want to give golf a try!

I had lessons from Janice Gerard. Check with Golf USA as she has recently move to Lady Lake.
She is very knowledgable and a good teacher. Each lesson is recorded and you get a DVD to take home. She connects you with a computerized vest to monitor your swing, etc.
5 hour long private lessons were $250 when I took lessons in July.

Maria Brooks, at the Arnold Palmer Golf Academy, is the pro to see. The best program around, is the "New To Golf" sessions, offered at the Golf Academy. Hundreds of Villagers have completed these programs with great success. Drop by the Golf Academy or call 352-259-8121.

The best instructor that I have ever met is Patrick Leahy. He has a golf academy at Lopez. He keeps it simple. Check out his web site -

Default Maria

I have to agree - Maria was great. She was one of the professionals helping out on the Nancy Lopez weekend.

I am also learning and just purchased a nice used set. I have only played 3-4 times and that was over 25 years ago.
I went to the driving range a couple times to get a feel for the clubs and that seemed to help.
In the morning I am golfing at Hilltop with my wifes brother.....sure hope I don't mess up too bad.

Patrick has run a couple of outings to Golden Ocala but he is currently giving lessons at Lopez. I went into his calendar and he has lessons scheduled all month.
