Stops signs are NOT decorations...you are supposed to STOP, regardless of whether you are on a bicycle, in a car, or a cart or whatever age you happen to be. I have actually been honked at for stopping at a stop sign. I was also honked at for not pulling out into the intersection on a yellow caution light to make a left turn after waiting for the traffic coming straight across in front of me from the other direction to clear. The lady behind me would have had to totally enter the intersection on red to turn after me if I had pulled out. This was at 466 & Southern Trace. She followed me on 466 to Buena Vista and then turned in at Laurel Manor....musta been late...shoulda left sooner. She was not old.

The trash collections trucks come through our neighborhood like Grant took Richmond on their way to the dump, next route, or whatever.

There's lots more, but you get the picture.

What doesn't get done today will keep until tomorrow....if we try and ensure that there is a tomorrow by slowing down and/or obeying traffic laws. Give everyone a chance to at least get old or older, whichever.

Putting my soapbox away now. Thanks.
You are right Dilly.

And Happinow, most people who are new are a little intimidated by driving their golf carts everywhere. It is pretty safe if you watch where you are going and anticipate other peoples possible bad moves. Morse and BeunaVista have separate from the road cart paths (at least south of 466), but Canal and Belvedere do not.

This brings me to this....I think it's pretty sad that seeing that we will live in such a beautiful place, with such a unique way to get around, that we can't take advantage of it. I saw some near misses this past week while driving around. Between the cars, carts, people, bikes and what ever else, it was a challenge (to say the least) to get from point A to point B. I would think that this cart idea should have been planned out a lot differently. Cart paths off the roadside should be the only way carts can travel, not in a lane along side the main road, like a bike path. I saw a cart pull out into the busy road just to pass a cart ahead of them. That caused multiple cars to swerve and thus having to avoid a possible accident. Things just don't seem right to me for this well planned community. But, I do LOVE TV!!!
you guys in the villages really have separate golf cart lanes for driving your golf carts??? here in sun city we have to drive our golf carts in the street with the cars. do you know how lucky you are to have separate lanes in the street for your golf cart? we can't believe that you guys in the villages have some roads that have separate paths off the roadside. how did they in a million years figure that one out? i bet your amenity fee is like $500 a month for all you guys have. gee our community is a planned community but we don't have half of the stuff you guys have. it seems like whoever planned your community did a great job. i don't think you guys appreciate what you have.

Oh, yes, we DO appreciate all that we have here! I think we are all just cognizant of the large number of people who are here this time of year, and the added traffic they bring. We DO have separate golf cart lanes on some streets, not all. In the newer areas golf cart lanes are often separate, yet parallel to the major streets, not ON the streets. Some even have medians in them that are landscaped with trees and flowers! We know that the developer and his family had a vision as to what The Villages would be. My amenity fee is less than $130 per month and that includes free golf on something like 30 executive golf courses. My amenity fee helps to pay for the beautiful landscaping that is everywhere I look. We Villagers know that we live in an exceptional community. I never take all of this for granted and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't feel truly blessed to be living here.

I want to add to this the side streets. We live on a street off from a busy road south of 466. To get to our house from this street is a short block, then a stop sign (it's a two way stop btw). We've seen vehicles both the service ones, Villages ones AND folks who live in this area---blow through these signs. Our neighbors on the corners have stated they've heard many times, breaks squealing. I pray earnestly that one day there won't be an accident OR a death!! We've been missed a handful of times as well, going the opposite direction that has no signs! It's scarey, most definately, here in The Villages!!! Don't think it has anything to do with dementia etc. since we see it so ofter EVERY DAY!!! It's just folks not paying attention and being too much in a hurry for the most part!!!
