I'm wondering, if this is a lesson to them or anyone else. For some reason, I feel this wouldn't be the first or last time we will see kids/adults thinking a golf cart is a toy.

they were not able to jump out before it rolled,, they climbed out like rats coming out of a hole,,, then turned it back on its wheels,, you can see stuff all over the asphalt that was in the cart,,,, nobody hurt,, grandpa gets a new cart via his insurance,,, and 3 young folks learn a lesson... God has a plan and it isnt on a GPS!,,

I don't think your homeowners covers your cart. I think you have to purchase a separate policy, like the one for your vehicle.

If I was Grandpa, I would NOT report this to my insurance carrier since his rates would significantly increase thereafter. If I were Grandpa, I'd make these three stupid jerks pay me in cash to purchase a new cart. The driver should pay the majority cost of a new cart. Make the stupid jerks get jobs at a grocery store, or wherever they can, to make the money. That's the way to teach a jerk a lesson he won't forget. Of course, the jerks would never ever use anything of mine again. And, they probably also wouldn't be invited back for a year or two.

I was a jerk once. Used to drag race with my Dad's new big Pontiac engine against all my friends with their 50 dollars cars. I was King.
Course I grew up. Can't believe the things I did as youth. Now I go under 20 in my golf cart and are very careful. Like others, I'm glad no one was hurt. |

Thanks for the pic!! I'll bet Grandpa was all over them like flies at a picnic when they came back to have to face him!

We also saw this cart post crash last night. Earlier that day while driving the car on O'Dell, I clocked a cart going sustained 30 mph. This was not a street legal and it was not down hill. Carts aren't designed to go that fast, don't have the safety features required for those speeds and can roll over. You can get hurt, pay heavy fines, court appearance and be denied insurance coverage if carts are modified to go over 20 mph. Be careful out there...

I wonder why everyone is assuming this is "grandpa's cart". I live here and that probably could just as easily been my 28 year old son. Kids looked more like college age than high school. Remember us boomers had kids later in life so it may have been dad's cart - not grandpa's. Just saying!!!!

VillageShooter took the picture and said it was grampa's cart. I assumed he heard the boys talking to the police. Or maybe they were his grandkids!

As I was reading the language on the paper that my guest passes came on i noticed that in order to drive a golf cart you must be 14! Really?? At 14, we all know that these kids think it is a toy. Why is it not that you should have a valid drivers license? Who ever made that rule, should revisit it and perhaps change it to having a license. Actually, my vote would be 18. I know that there are many adults that drive too fast, but 14 seems way too young for that kind of responsibility.

This is probably one reason that The Villages Golf Cart Store will not rent a cart to anyone under 25 any more. I think that anyone driving a golf cart should have a drivers license also.
