IMO there will be coal fired power plants for at least another 50 years. Solar and wind power can't generate enough electricity to power big cities. Hydro electric will drop due to water consumption increases. IMO That leaves coal for the near future/century?

When was the last time anyone saw a coal fired power plant putting black smoke in the air? And where?

If you are referring to the US, you may see the percentage of electricity generated from natural gas increase. Currently, coal and natural gas each account for about 33% of the generated electricity with nuclear at 20%. The rest is hydroelectric and renewables.
