When you have this huge amount of residents, rumors are bound to happen. I was asked the other day by an X-ray tech, how the new homes on the polo field grounds were coming along and if folks were upset about losing the polo field.

How would the outsiders get into the squares? Restaurants and shops depend on the general public to survive.

The same way they do when all the parking spaces are full or blocked off? Park in one of the MANY parking lots surrounding the square.

No, that idea has been scrapped, they're now looking at putting in parking meters at the squares.
I'm all for that.

Yep, I heard about the parking meters, too. The meters will only take tokens you buy at The Villages Sales Offices.

I also head about the meters. It seems that so many people appreciate all that the villages has to offer the campaign is named "Tokens of Appreciation". The extra money collected will be used to fund transportation from the parking lot to the Sharon.

I don't like the idea of a courtesy shuttle.

I like the idea. There are many places in the lots surrounding the square.

I think it's a great idea. No they are not public streets.....when Gov Scott came several years ago to sign a budget Morse kept out anyone with a Democrat sign or shirt under the auspices that the squares were private business

I love the idea of a shuttle from the parking lots. Would solve the problem that handicapped have getting to the square. They could even add a minimal charge.

While some of the villagers might be aware of this change (if enacted), very few if any of the visitors would be aware. As pointed out previously, these roads are public roads (no gate keys), and the outside public would not be aware of the changes. I can just imagine the traffic nightmare getting visitors to parking lots, and then getting them back out when going home.

IMHO, a past suggestion of a courtesy shuttle from the parking lots may work better, like they have at the hospital, you park and lock your vehicle, and they provide transportation to the hospital.

With the continuously increasing population, maybe the developer should be researching parking decks to provide additional spaces.
Courtesy? That's like free right?

I don't see how a shuttle would help someone in a wheelchair, maybe someone who can't walk very far.

This is not going to happen and would be as popular as valet service was.
Since the roads are public, wouldn't the county collect parking revenue and enforce it? What would TV get out of this other than unhappy residents and merchants? There is nothing sold on the squares that can't be bought on 441 or 466.

Full Disclosure:
I just get back from a meeting or I would have spoken up sooner. I thought the 2 posters before me were teasing everyone about meters. I just went along with their outrageous story thinking everyone else would also see it as unbelievable.

I haven't heard anything about meters.
I hope they did. They're both offline.
