I am not sure about the other squares but I believe this would be possible at Brownwood. The square is already closed to traffic on saturday mornings for the Farmer's Market. Also, there are ample parking spaces behind the square.

It's actually possible on all the squares if you're talking about parking on the square itself.
All three squares have parking behind the buildings. No reason that cars can't park there and leave the squares for golf carts only. The only issue I see is that someone asked if the streets on the squares are public property and I believe that they are. The squares themselves belong to The Villages, but if I'm not mistaken, the streets are public.

In the case of Brownwood, there really aren't all that many parking spots on the square. While I would be surprised to see it happen, closing the square at Brownwood to automobiles would be welcome.

I'd love to have only golf cart parking in the Squares. But somehow it somehow doesn't seem very welcoming to give Villagers with golf carts preferred parking. And the people who come to visit by car are told to park further away.

In the case of Brownwood, your chances of finding a spot on the square aren't very good. Most of the time you will wind up parking in the lots on the edges. Eliminating automobiles on the square at Brownwood would cut down on the traffic that makes a loop around the square looking for parking before heading off to the lots on the edges.

If I were an outsider and I was coming to Brownwood in my car to eat at a restaurant, shop at the stores and dance at the square.....but I was turned away because I obviously am not in a golf cart, I'd turn around and leave.
You can not keep the public out! Do you want the stores and restaurants to close down? |

I don't think that anyone is talking about banning cars from the squares or making it impossible for outsiders to come to the squares. If I'm not mistaken, the issue is PARKING on the squares. As I said, there are many parking spaces behind the buildings for cars. Obviously cars would have to be allowed to drive through the squares but parking could be reserved for golf carts only just as it is in some other areas.
If you come to the square in your car, you'd have to park in one of the parking lots behind the buildings. If you come in a cart, you could park in the squares themselves. Arrangements would have to be made for vendors on market nights and musicians and DJs playing in the squares. But it could be done and no one would be left out.

Who said anything about keeping the public out? Outside visitors are going to wind up parking on the edge lots regardless because there are so few parking spots on the square at Brownwood. Whenever I go there by car, I wind up parking on the edge lots. Golf carts suck up most of the spots on the square already.

As another person posted. The outsiders do not want to be denied the prime parking spots. Just not neighborly. If something like this would seriously happen...then the shuttle idea would be a huge help. It would help those unable to walk far the ability to go to the squares.

Are you an outsider? If not, how do you know what they want? Again, your chances of getting a parking spot on the square at Brownwood is not very good. Most of the time you wind up in the edge lots. Also, many of the popular restaurants at Brownwood aren't even on the square (Cody's, Gators, TooJays). Ricciardi's is close to off square parking as is WOB. The easiest parking for the movie theater is right behind the theater.
