Yes us men are quite proud of our body made sounds. We feel accomplished and enjoy sharing.

You are very welcome. It sure was fun and really informative. I found it in 2007 when I knew, I just knew there had to be more out there about The Villages than just the advertising. I was right, obviously. This was it. Facebook had not yet taken over the world. (I am still not on Facebook.)

When the site sold for the first time in 2011, I told our dear Mr. Tony that I would have bought it had I known — but (sigh) I never saw the “For Sale” sign in the yard.

I meant that. Seriously, I would have tried to buy it — but I was too late.

Oh well, could have been an interesting gig in retirement. But I would have sold it by now.

Maybe because I served 24 years in a male dominated Military, sometimes in close quarters, I too think facts are a fun way of laughing at the human experience.
My husband actually fell in love with me because of one of my "famous" silent, but deadly ones. I was leaning over a washing machine in a laundry room, with a giant industrial fan behind me when the SBD snuck out. He was at the other end of the room with his buddy waiting on the dryers to finish. He turned to his buddy and said "Damn Dave, you stink". Dave denied it, of course. When they looked my way, they found me laughing my butt off. I said, "when it's a good one, you just have to own it." It was love at first whiff!
Farts are fun! I remember being 8 months pregnant heading up to the 8th floor in the military medical center, when a young marine entered the elevator and politely asked " how are you doing today?" As the doors were closing, I responded, " not bad but a bit gassy." Just a little white lie, as I wasn't gassy at all, but he couldn't wait to get off that elevator!
I've been known to blame them on my kids too as revenge for the embarrassing moments they've given me.
I actually put a remote controlled fart sound machine under my Commander's chair during one of our staff meetings! It sure made the meeting more fun and memorable. Then I would put it in my office when my troops would come in and activate it then politely say "excuse me". They always kept their visit short! Enabling me to get more work done!
Nope, I don't think it's a guy thing at all! Farts are God's way of making us laugh at ourselves (and others) and accepting that all us stink from time to time!

It is classless to start a public thread about it though.

Sure farts are gross and crude, but a lot depends on context, where and when it happens. What makes us human is the ability to laugh at our flaws and foibles.

Here's a brief out-of-context excerpt from a modern children's lit book. And yeah, I think it's more of a guy thing but with gals becoming more like guys these days, it's probably becoming embraced by "all" sexes.

Kippy showed them the seed, which looked like half of a set of golden wings.

"You put it under your tongue and bite on it a little," he said, "and then you blow on it, like this."

Kippy demonstrated and made a shrill, whistling sound. Charles and Gino tried. Sure enough, the seeds sang. And when a lot of seeds sang, it was like a chorus humming. All three joined the seed chorus and turned their attention back toward the park.

"Hey," Kippy shouted, "there's the Tongue"

The figure near the riverbank was hazy, but it sure did look like him. Kippy and Gino called but the figure didn't seem to hear. Charles slipped back for fear of being seen. Then one of the policemen got out of the car and motioned to the person, pointing towards the fence. The person waved at the policeman and said something, and the seed chorus quieted to hear.

"Hair-ee Fiddlefarts!" the shouts filled the void. "Hair-ee Fiddlefarts! Hair-ee Fiddlefarts!"

It was the Tongue's trademark expression. He made it up the day "Leaning Head" Louie, their principal, came to class and Harry Bassarass passed this loud, long, disgustingly pungent barrage of gas. The policeman started to walk towards the Tongue, who took off. Kippy and Gino began shouting.

"Tongue! Tongue! Tongue!"

Soon other kids joined in.

"Tongue! Tongue! Tongue!" nearly all the kids were chanting as the Tongue scampered away and the policeman turned back.

Mrs Doug, my thoughts are with you and your husband during this time. I "got out of the house" this week to have lunch at Bonefish with three wonderful women, all of us are caretakers for four incredible men.

Hi Madelaine Aimee,

You said it to “them” so much kinder than I did yesterday.

Yesterday, I had finally had it and went after one of these “types” in no uncertain terms. I was direct and perfectly clear. I took a targeted hit on one poster in particular because the name is always the same and is connected, almost always, to miserable posts — time after time after time.

Well, I got in trouble. I knew I would. The moderator had no choice but to delete my post. I had quoted and told one of the usuals exactly what I thought of the predictable, mean “contributions” I had been seeing for a long time — from that poster.

Yeah, I got into trouble, but it sure felt good — while it lasted — which was not very long. I just wish said poster would have seen it, but it was a fast delete. (sigh)

I never do things like that, but this thread just kept getting meaner and meaner.

I know there are people who seem to have a need to try to make themselves feel better by trying to make others feel worse. It’s their problem. I know. But there are so many now.

Maybe I should cut them some slack and figure they could not possibly be reading the entire thread to see the whole story. I think we have posters who must just lurk around waiting to pounce because we never see much else from them. I think they probably read the first post and then go for it — trying to make themselves feel better, I guess. But they sure are looking even more like arses as this thread evolves to tell the whole story. And if they did read it all— well, that’s a different page in the DSM.

(And, jebartle, you have no reason to apologize. You are plenty classy in many ways. I can tell from your words.)

Yes, it is a public thread, but nobody is forced to read a thread they consider beneath their pay grade. I see many titles come across this board that I never consider opening and certainly not reading. I just happen to like Mrs. Doug and their previous posts and that is why I opened it and read it.

Very few people who visit TOTV personally know anyone who posts, so why do they feel they can label them as classless, crude and the other names that were hung on people on this thread. I have seen far worse threads on politics than this one.

This would be the perfect thread to go through and block the people who consider themselves to be so superior to others. Childishly, it would feel great, but it would also get them out of your reading pleasure in future threads.

This may sound corny, but, as we will all find out, life is short, why not fill it with laughter and love. So many TOTV members have that gift, .Iike Boomer, france, and too many to mention, so why should I dwell on folks that may have a sad history that affects their responses. I know I've been gifted with a great guy, who I adore, who could ask for more.

Another Doug giggle: Patients who were friends, would frequently leave an audible sound after a chiropractic adjustment, and his response was always "Gusundheit!"

Sorry to disagree, but I don't believe "class" has anything to do with it. Finding humor in the fact we find such embarrassment in something common to every single human being, not to mention animals as well, is common across cultures and classes. The gas we pass along with our reaction to sound, smell, or both is definitely worth a laugh.

Default Pull My Finger

When I first became the wife to my wonderful husband, he asked me to pull his finger (I had never heard that before) and I did. I could not stop laughing, but I would never again pull his finger. I lost my wonderful man two years ago and I wish I could pull his finger a hundred times a day.

So lying is perfectly acceptable and a normal body function is disgusting? Strange… I wonder how many of the horror stricken individuals who’ve posted would only have sex if only they were fully clothed, being so puritanical.

I wish you and Doug well, JeBartle. It’s a difficult journey you two are on presently. It’s no longer 2007 when most people would offer a hand up for support. Now demeaning and insulting to your suffering is determined to be necessary for many. Laughter does help when situation is so difficult. Our family has walked that walk.
