Can you cite that law? IIRC, Handicap Placards are NOT assigned to any vehicle, but are assigned to the PERSON who is handicapped.

My late M-i-L would bring her handicap placard with her when we picked her up and it was perfectly legal for us to use it when transporting her...

The "image of a wheelchair" is the standard signage identifying a handicap parking spot. It, in no way, limits the spot to wheelchairs...

Add to that, not all handicap spots have that extra room for wheelchairs. Some -do- have that white striped aisle next to the parking pace, but not all of them have that...

This is from Florida State Statutes 316.1955 and specifically addresses when the person with the assigned placard (permit) is the passenger, not the driver.

(3) Any person who is chauffeuring a person who has a disability is allowed, without need for a disabled parking permit or a special license plate, to stand temporarily in any such parking space, for the purpose of loading or unloading the person who has a disability.  A penalty may not be imposed upon the driver for such temporary standing.

(4)(a) A vehicle that is transporting a person who has a disability and that has been granted a permit under s. 320.0848(1)(a) may be parked for a maximum of 30 minutes in any parking space reserved for persons who have disabilities.

That second part, I believe, refers primarily to "transport vehicles" like commercial handivans or mini-busses owned by rehab and assisted living centers. It doesn't apply to me, bringing my disabled mom to the supermarket. It doesn't mean I can only park there for 30 minutes, just because I'm the driver transporting my mom with the disability.

Read the first line of my post and you will see that I state there should be designated handicap zones for golf cart.
I don't care if these spots are directly in front of the entrance of the facility.
What my main point as of now handicap zones are extra wide to handle wheelchair access, this not only making it easier to get in and out but also protecting damage to vehicles next to them.
And again, distance is not the issue, you want to put a special handicap golfcart space next to the entrance of a facility and put a wheelchair spots at the end of the parking lot I'm fine with that.

My wife was in a wheelchair for years and if you look at the handicap zone there is added space to accommodate a wheelchair.
I sometimes would see people leaving a restaurant get into their golf cart with a handicap card that did not seem to have a disability.
While I was struggling to get my wife out of the car and into her wheelchair without scratching the car next to me.

You could always back the car out some and have a lot of room.

The handicap plackard is NOT registered to a vehicle. It is registered to an individual. It can be used in any vehicle!
