We did as well. The company was shockingly great to deal with. Does it make sense?
My understanding you are sort of forced to put a new roof on your home, if it is 13 years old to be able to get home owners insurance. A tile roof or metal roof should last far longer than that but the homes are not built to hold the weight of a tile roof and metal roofs are likely not permitted.

Default Question Please re: Certainteed.

Certainteed did not pay for the roof installation 100%. In our case, I believe, they paid for the shingles, paper and a few more items. We DID NOT file an insurance claim. However, after replacement, we let our insurance company know we replaced our roof. They immediately reduced the cost of our homeowners insurance and sent us a prorated check for the difference ( not much money)
I have a question and if you can answer it would be helpful. I completed a claim form with Certainteed. They require us to ship and send a shingle sample to them. So supposedly I have to hire someone to take off a shingle, then pay to have it shipped to them. Can you tell me which company you used for the inspection? It would be most helpful and appreciated. It’s not a matter of algae but of the grit coming off the roof. Thank you.

I’m looking for the same info regarding Certainteed. I filed a claim and they want us to remove one shingle sheet, pack and mail it to them. I guess I need to look for someone to do that and replace the removed shingle. I assumed they would send an inspector but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Any info would be appreciated.

I think at this point it’s gonna take an attorney to do something about this as there’s so many of us. We need to get together and decide what to do. We too have the problem with the grit. It seems there’s an excessive amount that comes off the roof. They want us to do the same have the shingle removed and shipped to them which seems ridiculous. Our home was a new build in the historic side of TV. Home was built in 2015. Any info would truly be appreciated.

Default roof shingles

all the houses built in 2014 probably have bad shingles. certainteed has way to many claims now, i can see them going all the way to a class action lawsuit. im also waiting to hear from them, i did have a roofer pull a shingle and send it in ,its going on 3 weeks now.

Can I ask who your roofer was that did the work? Did they replace the shingle? I saw where Certainteed would reimburse about $50 (which I think is ridiculous for what is needed). I was astounded by the process they have in place. I would’ve thought that an inspector would’ve been sent out. I saw that Batterbee Roofing was the roof installer when searching the permits issued when our home was built.

[QUOTE=JP;2322117]My neighbors all had their roofs cleaned by that Leprechaun company and it looked great for maybe a year or two but eventually the dark algae growth came back and now it looks just like mine that was never cleaned. Roofs grow this black algae EVERYWHERE. Your roof is not special or defective. Get over it. I use Spray It And Forget it on my roofs up North and have no lichen or algae growth and they look like new. I'm going to do the same thing here and I am sure it will clean it and keep it that way for at least 5 years.[/QUOT1 E]

Agree ! Spray and Forget is great ! Don't even need a power washer, just attach bottle to hose and stand there and spray the roof, gutters, anywhere there is mold, algae, mildew, what ever name you prefer.

Thank you - I did go ahead and contact them prior to receiving your answer (but it was appreciated). I went back & pulled building permits from Lake County to see who the sub was on our build. In 2015 TV used contractors who then subbed out the jobs. I was able to find the permitting info and reached out to Batterbee. They're scheduled to come out on Tuesday so we'll see how that goes. Again thanks for your info...hopefully we'll both receive satisfaction from CertainTeed.

I am in the process of trying to do this with certainteed. They are making the process very difficult. They are changing their processing and making you mail in a shingle now and have another roofer come and take an aerial view of your roof. This was not their process Or their promise of inspecting themselves. As many Roofs in my neighborhood have been replaced without any of this. I wonder if anyone that has mailed in a shingle has been promised a new roof. They are not budging on this.

I agree with the person who suggested contact villages warranty. Far better than asking here. They either know or know who to ask.
They also have a list of suggested contractors. The villages is powerful. Around here if you can't work in the villages you are out of business.
