I'm not saying it is or is not the better move, but if the house is purchased in cash, I would seriously weigh the risks and consider self-insuring (meaning none because I wouldn't be able to replace the house if devastated).

Villages insurance put us with Travelers years ago. Reasonable rates so far but then haven’t had a claim either. After a claim is when “the rubber hits the road”!
