I think the people who mow my lawn with riding mowers are busting the sprinklers, and it is a hassle to inspect them for leaks all the time, and then replace leaking ones.
I have seen ads for push mowing only. Is it worth the extra cost of mowing to save on sprinkler repairs? Does anyone using push mower services only still have to sometimes replace sprinklers? I try to keep the donuts clear and at proper height, but some heads do seem to be too high for the surrounding grass level. Does anyone have a service that includes all lawn services, that is, mowing, lawn treatments, and sprinklers, so that if something goes wrong we know who is responsible? |

Do you do the repair yourself? If so you install different height heads or put the line deeper so the heads don't stick up above the donuts. Even with heads at the proper height (below the donut even with the ground level) riders turning on top of the donuts may still damage the sprinkler heads causing the donut to move against the head. This should be evident. I have rock yard and I've replaced 70% of my sprinkler heads. Leaks, stick in up position, plugged up. Some can be disassembled cleaned and reused if tested good I sing water hose. If I had to pay someone to do it I sure it would be very expensive.

I have only push mowers for my lawns. That is my home and two rental homes. I do still get a sprinkler leak once in a while. Usually because sand gets down between the head and the sleeve and wears a grove in them. But I only get about 10% of the leaks and broken heads I got when I used riding mowers for the lawns.
So push mowing does have a significant benefit for lawn sprinklers. And just to clarify, they are really self propelled mowers, not push. But are the small walk behind 24 inch cut type.
