Never tried it but would their readers still be able to read the bar code from the picture of the I.D. ?

I have been told the rule is you are to have on you the actual villages ID which contains a holographic image. It is way too easy to take a photo of someone's ID and photoshop your own picture into the photo space. The staff is trained to not accept a substitute. YMMV

The Villages employees are not allowed to accept a photo of the ID card. Only the real ID is acceptable.

Picture on phone will not work to enter anywhere they scan your id. (Sports pool, club meetings and discounts on tickets.
Depending on who the person is scanning have seen couple let them in, but not many, most refuse entry. Have watched with no Id or photos on phone at adult pools, to have actual Id when they return. Will tell you too many residents are complaining non resident people are using the our amenities. That said, the developer still thinks we should have a card to enter gates, instead of a barcode on our cars. So ids on phones are farther away than you think. That said one of our coder nerd grandkids can take an TV Id scan it remove pic and put a different one. Print

Tell that to The Villages Administration. They made the rule. But, a resident could hand out multiple copies of the card, and the Villages employee would need to compare every cardholder's face to the photo to verify the identity, instead of just scanning the original card.

Not true. I took a good quality photo with my phone, and they have been able to successfully scan the picture at every rec center I have been required to show ID. One worker told me they recently updated their scanners (or the software?) and she hasn't had any problem scanning photos since.
