Talking to high level person in Villages IT one afternoon at a wine tasting, they mentioned being able to show your ID from the Villages App was in work.

That was over two years ago...

To be fair, given the age of the organization, they are probably dealing with some obsolete hardware/software. So very hard to update our replace without causing major problems.

Will tell you too many residents are complaining non resident people are using the our amenities.

That said, the developer still thinks we should have a card to enter gates, instead of a barcode on our cars. So ids on phones are farther away than you think.

That said one of our coder nerd grandkids can take an TV Id scan it remove pic and put a different one. Print
Um... I was going to say almost exactly what you did. Anyway, a photo won't scan- at least mine wouldn't at Colony Cottage a week ago, but I think it would still allow you entrance if your Villager ID Number can be used to get in- it's on the card.

Asianthree is correct.

The official policy is a "photo" of your ID card isn't sufficient, even though most any decent scanner should be able to read it.

Just last week, I was checked at a Dog Park and my photo of my ID was insufficient.

For the OP who thought a photo was a great idea ...

If you have an iPhone, take photos of all your ID's, Medical Cards, etc. & put them in your Apple Wallet in your phone, that's what it's for.

Just tuck village ID in phone case.
Cells are just another appendage with majority of Villagers.
Sorted!

I'm telling you, they absolutely CAN scan a picture on MY phone and get the scanner to accept it. I have done this multiple times in the last 2 weeks, so I know for a fact it works.

Whether the employee will allow that is a separate issue.

You can say it over and over again, but it will be ignored by those who either don't read the thread before posting or they'll just insist that your experience didn't happen. It's fruitless around here.

Not a separate issue it’s what the rules state. Is all it takes is someone to call complain that person let you in with a picture on your phone.

Then could be a reprimand, or removal from that position, for skirting the rules.

I forgot my TV id (had my DL resident ID on my phone) morning at the colony sports pool.

Even though 2 people verified I swim daily. Employee said she couldn’t take a chance on her job I respect that, and would never jeopardize someone’s livelihood.

I don’t go anywhere with DL or ID and insurance card. Why because, I have been there when someone needs CPR. A locked phone doesn’t do any good for EMS staff, to id you and notify your family

They make nice phone cases that have a sleeve that would hold the actual ID. Problem solved.

The Villages knows that phones can take digital photos. That is not the issue. The rule is that you must present the original ID card to gain entry into the rec centers and other facilities. Personally, if I observe a Villages employee accepting a phone photo instead of the original card, I report them to their supervisor. They are not doing their job. The rule is the rule, and I like it. It is more secure.

It's not more secure at all. The card and the scanned card is the same. The barcode is ultimately what determines if things are valid. A fake card can be produced just as easily as a digital image can be modified.

It's not like this is a passport to get into the country, it's a verification that someone is allowed to use a pool. Not something to get all worked up about and start being a snitch on the Villages employees that are using common sense. Let the Villages employees do their jobs and MYOB.
