The only way a shingle cannot seal in the FL sun is if the roofer placed the nails in or too close to the seal stripe. That holds the shingle over lapping up and does not allow it to touch the seal stripe. I guess the other would be defective seal stripe but I have never heard of that.

Default Roof Shingles

I removed a 1 gallon can of shingle granules from one rain gutter! Is this normal after 5 yrs?

Also I called Certainteed about joint separation on my garage and porch ceiling and got a ration of crap!!

Owens Corning had a major problem several years ago with defective seal strips. Many roofs needed to be redone. Homeowners had a hard time getting OC to pay for more than just replacement shingles. These roofs needed to be stripped all the way down to sheeting and start over. The cost of the labor was much more than the cost of replacement shingles.
