All Florida raptors are protected under the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act and under Florida law. This means the birds themselves, their nests, and their eggs are protected by federal and state law. Inactive nests (no young or eggs present) of non-listed hawks can be removed without a permit (Rule 68A-16.003). Nests of Eagles, Crested Caracara, Snail Kite, American Kestrel, and Ospreys in Monroe County cannot be removed under this rule. If the hawk nest is active with eggs or chicks in the nest, removal permits are needed from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS).



What can be done without a permit?

Avoid areas near the nest, if possible. If you must go through the area, carry an open umbrella or wear a hard hat.
Temporarily erect a shade structure to obstruct the birds’ view of people and pets.
Planting shrubbery can also provide cover for pets and birds visiting feeders.
Sometimes you may be able to use an air horn to deter birds that start to dive.
During the non-breeding season, trim branches to eliminate perches and help resolve recurring issues.
Eliminate attractants that may attract prey such as rodents into your yard. Items like unsecured garbage, fallen bird seed and pet food are common household attractants that may entice prey species onto your property.

I don’t want to sound mean but simple solution is don’t feed the birds or any wildlife for that matter. This is nature and natural for animals to fend for themselves. Even though we humans are taking up more space mother nature adapts and provides.

If I were selling a handgun, I would also require the buyer to have a current concealed carry permit in Florida. That way, you know the buyer has a legal right to own a firearm.

New York has a very odd procedure for a carry license. I first had to buy a handgun, but not take possession of it. THEN I went through the process to legally carry THAT handgun. The serial number is on my license. Were I not granted the carry license, I am not really sure what would happen to the gun. Would I lose the money spent on it? Another odd thing with NY and NJ, as hard as it is to get one, they are for life.

If I am wrong tell me, but I am 99.99999 sure he was kidding about the shotgun. Like when a date would pick up one of my girls in HS, and they'd wait in the library with me where I'd be cleaning my guns. Of course I'd never shoot them (A whack to the head with a shovel would do). Let's see how many posts are written telling me it is not legal to whack people in the head with a shovel.

It applies to all gun purchases from a licensed firearm dealer. But, if you purchase a gun online to be delivered to a dealer, the 3-day period starts at the time of the purchase. So, by the time you pick up the firearm, the 3 days could be over.

I think the 3-day law was passed a few years ago, shortly after a mass shooting in Florida.

These animals aren't being mean or aggressive. They are simply living. This is what happens in nature every day. It is we humans that put labels like "cute" or "scary" on animals. They are simply animals eating.

You created a feeding ground for the hawks and now you want to shoot them. That’s not right. I had a lot of feeders up north that brought the hawks. Hard to see them snatch up other birds but the hawks are beautiful too. I wonder if it’s even legal to shoot hawks.
