As an example, it has been more than one time that I have been more than a few steps into a crosswalk and a car has proceeded through the crosswalk, nearly missing me. This is the reason I do not walk on the MMPs, especially going through the tunnels. I did that once and will never do it again. You take your life in your hands.

Having said that, south of 44 has separate paths from vehicular roadways for walkers and runners. Anyone who is an avid walker or runner would be much safer on those paths that do not allow golf carts on them.
A lot of people seem to lose their caution when they are in a parking lot. But, there is plenty of speeding and distracted driving in the parking lots.

I also never go over the center line when driving an automobile. That is dangerous. I will never understand why drivers move to the left of the center line when a golf cart is coming up on their right in the MMP. There is room for both of you unless you are driving a huge truck with a wide load.
Pedestrians always have the right of way and golf carts are low man on the totem pole. Golf carts have to yield for anything and everything. If there is no one in site there is no reason why you can’t move over. If another cart is coming you need to come a complete stop and wait for the other cart to pass so you can then drive around the walkers. The walkers do not have to leave the path. Of course if they know it is you coming they might want to hide behind a tree or stone wall. Unbelievable.

Right?
No one here expressed any willingness to intentionally hit someone with their golf cart or suggested some one would, but when someone repeatedly makes statements demonstrating a dangerous attitude it is in everyone's best interest to take issue, and perhaps giving that person cause to rethink their mind set

Perhaps you do, Coffeebean, but I guarantee that not everybody does so especially when you are walking, please be careful, and as they teach in defensive driving school: “leave yourself an out” … always.

The point is that it took a lot of negative posts, including the defiant show me the fine print by the OP, before she issued a clarification. . like finally, the dumpster fire got big enough to get her attention. .
Some of us had no problem understanding coffeebean the first time. Perhaps the ones who had trouble understanding it, are the ones who should definitely move out of the way whenever they see a golf cart coming. Because they have difficulty comprehending things that are pretty clear to the rest of the people observing the exact same thing.

Every year many pedestrians are killed due to thoughtless action on their part by driver who are blameless, but not always . The day will come when you will need some sort of license to operate a golf cart, the growing number of people who can not be trusted with an automobile driving golf carts will at some point cause enough problems will make this necessary.
That proves the point that - pedestrians should be willing to yield - not because the cart has the right of way but because the cart can kill them and the pedestrian has no way of knowing what kind of driver it is - until it's too late.

Of course any one would get out of the way of a golf cart that is a threat to your life or safety, the driver of the golf cart should not put the pedestrian in that position , that is the point, the person driving the machine has a greater responsibility

You do you. But I won't be betting my life on 100% of all golf cart drivers who approach me as I'm walking down the street, having 100% full control of their faculties. We live in a community where many golf cart drivers have had their CAR keys taken from them, and are no longer allowed to drive cars. There's a reason for that. So I'll put my money on "this driver might hurt me" and walk to the side. Not because I think all cart drivers are irresponsible. But rather, because only ONE of them needs to be irresponsible to end my life.

CoffeeBean, I get the feeling your original post and several of your replies convey your real feelings accurately, this edit looks like someone that's a little sheepish about making their real feelings known and being called out on it.

My main take away from this thread is that there are a lot of people out there that could benefit from a reminder to be courteous regardless of what the rule, law or situation they encounter is. The sense of entitlement, lack of concern for others and rude approach several folks on this thread display is embarrassing. Take a breath, be nice to people, be careful and take care of yourself. Goodness....

Of course, practical, real world common sense, one of the cardinal rules of driving, as well as walking ,watch out for the other guy, "He was oh so right as his drove along,, but just as dead if he was wrong". For a puny, soft human to challenge a golf cart is more than foolish. I don't wish to characterize anyones posting but some seem to reflect an unsafe attitude regarding responsibility and perhaps a little more clarity might be in order, hence the discussion .

Yes, OBB, exactly. I understood it from the beginning too and I don't even live there yet! It's about basic comprehension. We all write quickly in comment threads because that's the nature of these things - we aren't being paid to author an article for wide publication.

So, readers are supposed to understand that and pay closer attention to the INTENT of the comment writer rather than split hairs over exact wording. My honed instinct tells me there was plenty of sexism involved here too (incl by the OP) and that's why overblown assumptions got made. Yawn, some people still haven't recovered from Billie Jean King beating Bobby Riggs so, it plays out in these weird ways.

But, when misinterpretations begin, it's probably best for the writer getting jumped-on to go quickly back to editing/correcting their post for better clarity.

Btw, your comments on this thread have been solid.

A Karen is not gender specific. I highly doubt two male Karens(Richards as some call them) will be exchanging news about a clothes sale down the street when confronted with a right of way issue.
