New here at TV. Our internet just dropped out for an hour or so this morning then came back on. Television worked fine throughout. Does this happen often here?

My Comcast Internet stops or is slo slow it's useless from 8-10 AM, around noon, and 8PM. They say to go to speed check when it's happening but of course you can't when it stops working.

I have comcast and no problem but when we lived in Jacksonville, same thing happened to ours.. I complained.. ALOT.. until finally they sent a tech that found ( for lack of a better explanation) that we were sharing space on the cable with too many others and when we all got online it slowed or quit.. so just keep complaining.. it's too expensive to not have reliable connection.

This Comcast problem is with IP6 service and they cannot find root cause. It has been slow and many times actually stalling. They don't know Root Cause or what to do.
By the way this has been an onging problem for months. Go Comcast. |

I have never had problems, thank goodness. I'm not real computer savvy. What is IP6 service?

When you go to www.some internet site.com, there is a service that translates the English www. some internet site.com that you type in to the real address in the form 123.255.255.123 this is called IPV4. With all of the new internet based devices, the experts figured out we (aka the world) were going to run out of addresses real soon, so IPV6 was developed. In this system, the real address for www. some internet site. com would be in a hexadecimal format like this: 3ffe:1900:4545:3:200:f8ff:fe21:67cf the result is better security, and LOTs more addresses. In any case, if it is done right, it will be transparent to the end user (aka us), if it is done wrong....we will all be pulling our hair out. Hope this helps.

I had a Comcast problem today when I received my monthly bill. Two months ago I specifically told them when my free HBO promotion was up,NOT to renew me.They said fine no problem.Today I get my bill with a ten dollar increase.I'm now being charged for HBO.I called them and they took it off.My question is why do they NOT do what they say they WILL do?

My guess is enough people don't look closely at their monthly bill. Or else the charge isn't high enough to be bothered waiting on hold to argue about it.

The other thing to do is go into your online account and turn off the function that allows your router to be a wifi hotspot. Despite what Comcast told you, this does slow you down at certain times of the day, especially evening.
It's really hard to find where to do that. Keep digging around in your account or do a chat online with a customer service rep to find out where on your account it is located.

Some issues are dependent on where in TV you live.
I upgraded a couple of months ago to new router and bought my own modem. I started having problems with occassional loss of interenet signal. I called the router people and modem techs and they did some testing which revealed I was receiving a signal from the Comcast box that was borderline low end...almost out of tolerance. Called Comcast for a tech to come out. Armed with my printouts from the modem and router makers I showed the tech the results of the new equipment testing. He said he already knew the problem before he got there. He went out to the box between our houses and spent 10 minutes or so. Came back in and said he called maintenance to come in and do a repair job. I asked him what the problem was. He said the equipment was not Comcast equipment and was out of their specification. The equipment was owned by the old cable company once upon a time owned by TV....bought by Comcast. Our home was built in 2004 and we did have TV non Comcast cable company. The maintenance guy was there after dinner the same eveing. AFter he was there for an hour or so I went to check on progress. He had completely removed everything in the pole, in the ground and feeding to our box Replaved everything in ours and the neighbors. He was there for a good three hours. After he left I went in and re-ran the diagnostics from the modem and router folks. Right smack in the middle of the recommended sweet spot settings. Long story but worth passing along. The newer, higher performing components I bought spot lighted a problem lurking in the system. All the techs and the maintenance guy were very knowledgeable, capable, professional and helpful. |
