Yep. The same crowd that submitted fake wind damage claims so they could get a "free" roof replacement.

The type of damage described is caused by a wiper blade going bad - the rubber portion actually comes off or moves enough so that the metal arm is in contact with the windshield - and then continuing to run the wipers even though they are scratching a groove in the glass. This is not accidental, and the root cause is a combination of a blade going bad AND the end user continuing to use the wipers.

Why would insurance pay for this in any way?

I'll throw in my somewhat realted experience with this.

1. State Farm became horrible at paying any claim on anything. (Roof expecially)

2. Safelite has a "Insurance replacement cost and a cash replacement cost. Cash price was cheaper....

There's a fighting chance that several of those posters were doing so tongue-in-cheek.

Nevertheless though...wouldn't expecting an insurance company to replace a windshield because of wear and tear (especially as the damage could have been prevented by the owner merely replacing the wiper blades) about the same thing as expecting an insurance company to pay for a new paint job because the owner parked it in the sun instead of under a shelter? Insurance companies are not responsible for the poor judgment of the owner.

You described normal wear, I side with the insurance co. They don't insure normal wear.
Replace the windshield , & enjoy the clear view.

Fit perfectly on my Honda accord. I usually just get original rubber replacements but, they usually streak.. blade frame bowed so rubber lays flat all cross windshield when in motion. Work great on my vehicle.

It maybe "free" but not so much after you have a claim listed on your record through State Farm. I found that out myself. This time I paid for it myself less than 400 dollars . A lot of turnpike travel and flying pebbles cause a lot of small cracks.

Well after 3 days and 90 minutes on hold Mrs. State Farm calls me and say they will not because it is wear and tear. So I have a call in to her to see if they will even pay after I pay the deductible. (900 Jaguar windscreen). We will se what this ...... says when she gets back to me.
Meanwhile if the answer is no, does anybody no how to get ground in wiper streaks off of windshields. Thanks, Bud
You were on hold for three days and 90 minutes. I would’ve hung up after a half hour.

Insurance fraud is a felony offense (not civil offense) in Florida. Has anyone else sent a link to this thread to law enforcement?

Some insurance companies will waive the deductible if the windshield can be repaired, but not replaced. This type of repair involves injecting an epoxy to repair a chip or crack. I think your detail guy is incorrect that all insurance companies will waive the deductible when you have a windshield replaced, regardless of how the windshield was damaged. In fact, I doubt that any insurance company will waive the deductible for a replacement windshield.
Insurance covers damage from road debris, hail, vandalism etc, but not wear and tear. Wiping windows with damaged or dirty wiper blades is neglect and falls under wear and tear. Thus no coverage.

ok thanks guys. yes wife goes to work early and probably uses the wipers the whole 25 minute drive. With no rain just dew. Am sure that is what happened. will not be committing fraud. Hopefully will find an inexpensive windshield. Was on the phone at different times over 3 days for 90 minutes

Good luck and classy decision to handle the issue.
