Yep, grew up on the farm and was driving a tractor at age 8 and the rack truck at twelve. Riding in the back of a pick-up or sitting on the fender of a tractor does not even come close to them kids strapped to that golf cart. |

My big fear is that one day we will have a tragic accident here and some young lives will end due to this foolishness. I don't know how to stop it. Don't these people read the newspaper, use common sense and see how many golf cart accidents we have here? The POA bulletin does an excellent job covering these issues.

Saw a kid the other day who was standing on the back of a golf cart while 2 others rode. Scary!

Maybe the grandparents where driving slow,so that nothing would happen. Maybe 10 or 15 years it was common to see kids in the back of pick-up trucks on the inter-state doing 70 mph.How many kids rode in a trailer on moving days. How man boys had go-carts that they drove in the street with traffic, and had high speeds. Give these people a break, maybe they knew what they were doing. Is this against the law?

I grew up in a country town...have ridden in the back of many a truck...ridden in cars without seat belts. Did a few crazy things...but when it comes to a child's safety..why chance strapping him in life a used golf bag? How many people have been injured or even killed on a golf cart? How many times have people here complained about drivers in TV? I guess if there is no room in the car we could strap them to a luggage rack or sit them in the trunk! Personally my grandchildren's safety is more important than a short joy ride and if it's not illegal it should be. |

Folks think it's "fine" only if they are the ones doing it (fill in the blank on what the deed might be). You know, that "entitlement" mentality??!! As for kids strapped on the back of a golf-cart---it more than likely is illegal since this isn't a seat but a place for the clubs. If nothing else folks should be using "common sense" when they're out and about. I liked what one poster said---"no room IN the car? Let's tie the kids to the luggage rack or put them in the trunk!!" That makes about as much sense as tying kids to the cart.
We'll continue to see these acts until there's a horrible accident (or make that plural)---then maybe a big crack-down will happen where our privileges of being a "golf cart community" would be taken away. |

Reading this about the kids riding on the back of the cart reminds me of the times while growing up in the Bronx we use to hitch a ride on the back of a bus. You got on the back bumper and held on for dear life. In the winter when it snowed we then hitched a ride on the back of a car while riding on your sled. Who didn't ride in the back of a pick up truck, or on the running board of the old man's car. Have fun kids you only live once.

But police, fire and EMS workers will tell you that it DOES happen, every day, and they get traumatized by seeing the maimed or killed innocents..to the extent they have post traumatic stress disorder and need to attend counseling/therapy sometimes for months/years. Does any of us want to see an innocent child (or ignorant adult for that matter) with his brains or guts spilled on the street here, when it can be easily prevented?!?!?!? Not everything that is "legal" is good for a person, especially when it's a child who's not yet competent for making decisions about personal safety. That's the job of grownups who are sober and of sound mind. |

There is nothing wrong in letting kids be kids. I am not saying prevent kids from having fun. I've had broken bones from being a kid. Had the four wheelers and bikes. Most kids before hunting are taught gun safety. But strapping a kid to a moving vehicle with a belt...well, if that is not stupidity on the part of an adult. Could you honestly live with yourself if your golf cart flipped and your grandchild was seriously injured or killed because of "YOUR" negligence.

In all honesty, strapping kids in like a golf bag is no different than strapping them in the rear seats....they're just standing instead of sitting. I just don't see the big problem here... My clubs have ridden around, strapped on my cart, for over 2 year and not a scratch! |
