Man suspected in sex assault of woman in her 70’s

I owe everyone an apology. I was skeptical because some very valid sources were thinking she was confused. I am sorry.
No apologies necessary. We don't know what we don't know.

We should be careful with each other to say what sources validate our opinions.

Probably not the same case. This incident was July 20. Duval incident was August 16.

Also, the circumstances of the incident just reported in the online news do not sound the same as those of the prior incident of August 16.

The article in online news says the perp's dna matches other rapes...now I really don not understand why the sheriffs dept. was so tight lipped about the Duval incident. And by the way, the woman said she was drugged. Confusion and drowsiness next day would be normal.

I think the community is put at risk when news of crimes is withheld.

And it doesn't just happen in TV, when I was in Virginia at the beginning of the year, there were two stories about single women being raped in their homes within a couple weeks of each other... they were 93 and 95 years old. It was a big story simply because of their age. I don't think they caught the guy, but I think they were of the assumption that it was the same guy for obvious reasons. I left Virginia shortly after this happened so I don't know the outcome. Don't know if there were more incidents or if they caught anyone. Very sad. They interviewed the ladies, but didn't show their faces, but it was very sad to watch and listen to them. There are sickos everywhere, but it's good to know when it happens close to home so you can be extra vigilant when danger is imminent. There's a big difference, IMO, between a "smash and grab" and an actual personal assault on someone.

Now don't get me wrong. I love what the Daily Sun does for me as far as keeping me up on activities in The Villages, but until it becomes, or we get a real newspaper that covers all the news good and bad we will only be going on rampant speculation and rumor. We deserve to know exactly what happened and I have to believe that the Daily Sun is doing us a disservice by not telling us. The Daily Sun's philosophy seems to be taken directly from the Jack Nicholson character in the film, "A Few Good Men," when he says "you can't handle the truth." Come on Daily Sun! We're adults and can handle it.

We can debate about the Daily Sun all we want. I think we need to consider that law enforcement is keeping details confidential as they complete their investigation in this case. Otherwise it would have been published in other news sources. Seems a bit unfair to place all the blame on TDS in this case.

Every citizen has a constitutional right to possess a firearm. Florida recognizes this right and like mentioned, many Floridians do have firearms. I would only encourage that if you do purchase a firearm for protection. Educate and train yourself on the firearm. Never carry a firearm if you plan to consume alcohol! Impaired judgement and firearms are a recipe for disaster. Responsible firearm owners understand they are used only for protection and recreation.

Open carry in Florida is only allowed if you are on your way to hunt or a to target range. You can not just carry in public places.

The difference is in Virginia the news was reported in a timely manner, I assume. It has been two months since this incident happened, and this is the first we have heard of it.

The news organizations are doing a disservice to the community by not reporting it, and allowing others to be vulnerable while the perpetrator is free to commit other crimes.

That's your choice but I wouldn't let the world know how vulnerable you are to prove a point.

The DNA match was to other incidents in the Leesburg jurisdiction, not the incident in Duval. I don't think the incidents are related, or somebody would have said so. The fact that we have heard nothing more about the Duval incident indicates to me that they either haven't caught the perp in that case, or there is something else going on there.

I have a Leroy Jethro Gibbs gut feeling about this guy being the perpetrator in Duval.
