Hi. We are fast approaching the end of the one year warranty on our new home. We had a home inspector come out who said that our shingles are "blistered" and b/c of this defect, the roof (that is, all the shingles) should be replaced.

The developer is saying either the roof is fine, or if not, the shingle manufacturer (Certainteed) is responsible.

We have heard that this is not an isolated problem with these shingles and that other new homes have had the same problem.

Our question is, have you -- or do you know anyone who has -- had this same problem? And if so, we would love to know how the warranty claim was resolved.

File a claim with Certainteed before the year is up. They will send someone out and you can compare notes with the inspector you had, they will take care of it if they're bad.

these homes are the poorest quality I have ever seen. cheap materials, poor labor lead to all sorts of problems ..my house is only 8 years old and the things i have found wrong and repaired I have only seen in houses 20 years or older. what junk..

Sorry to hear that, ours is also 8 years old and have done virtually no repairs to the house, except for a couple of cracks in the ceilings.

We had the same problem 16 years ago with our roof shingles. They were made by Corning. You must notify the manufacturer and insist they send someone out to inspect. Almost every home in our patio villas needed a new roof.

My house is also 8 years old and not a single problem. Overall the construction quality is above average. If you want to see cheap junk, just go to Phoenix or Vegas and see what they have built.

You must have bought the lemon of the lot, nearly 5 years and not one problem worth noting, same with the neighbors on our street, as a matter of fact I don't believe anyone I know here has complained about the quality of their home. These homes are castles compared to Pulte and Ryan homes.

wall cracks, no consistency in framing, poor insulation, shingles almost wore out and on and on. These homes were thrown together using the cheapest quality material available. Appliances cheap whirlpool, builder quality, should have given a credit so you can by your own like most builders do. Just a shame that nobody cares what is being built here.. I got a look at the new builds, same crap..

Simple solution - your house is now worth a lot more than you paid for it. Sell it and leave this hell hole to the rest of us suckers. (Thats sarcasm, folks)

I am very familiar with the villages construction. While not custom built, they are high quality homes. Drive up to Middleburg or any suburb of Jacksonville to see poor quality. My home here is nearly 20 years old, every door still swings true, no siding blows off in the wind, etc. Of course one can find higher quality appliances, countertops, windows. It will be reflected in the price. Or go buy a custom home and install whatever upgrades one wants. Strict adherence to the Florida Building Code is our friend, and that’s what we have here. We should be proud of it, as the villages should be too.

IMO there no reason why residential house can’t have metal roofs, one and done for 45 years plus. Developers have them on majority of their building. Outside bubble you see plenty. I can see the districts controlling the color but NOT the material. Who look up at roof anyway.

it's not really worth more, I've been here 6 weeks. believe me this construction is not up to any standards i have built or specked out. As soon as my time is up ,I am out of here. what an awful place. I had such high expectations, but am very disappointed in the whole deal..

All of these comments are interesting, but my question was, has anyone else had -- or know of -- shingles that are (may be?) defective due to "blistering" during the first year after closing? Thanks.

We bought new in 2015. After hurricane Irma, DH realized some of our roof shingles had lifted. The roofing nails held, but many of the shingles adhesive failed.

CertainTeed came out, examined the roof, agreed the adhesive failed. They recommended hiring a roofer to re-glue the failed shingles, and cut us a check for the labor. IIRC, it was around 2k.

DH bought materials and did the work himself. No problems since.

Not the same problem as yours, but they will work with you.
