The "guilty party"?

Guilty of what, putting trash in the trash can?

The garbage cans are by the postal station FOR junk mail, it seems obvious to me. We might not have enough cans for all the stuff put into our boxes and the junk mail senders should be charged for the extra cost of trash cans.

Then why is the trash can placed adjacent to the mailboxes? What else is expected to be placed into them if not for discarding junk mail?

It makes sense, but I was never told not to put junk mail in the trash cans that are provided 🤷🏽*♀️

I understand the chastising if the trash can is completely full but it is there for that reason.

Villagers already compromise by having to travel a mile or more to get their mail. That saves enormous labor costs. So the least they can do is provide trash cans adequate enough to handle the discarded mail.

I don't see an issue putting junk mail in the trash at the postal station unless it is overflowing - then it is very inconsiderate!

isn't this why the word amenity preceeds the word fee on that nice message we receive monthly? There's even a nice collection plate there to receive it.
We purchased the privilege to dispose of unwanted solicitations.

Just a word of advice—— please don’t confront anyone for using the postal station trash cans to throw unwanted mail away. You seem pretty passionate about it with the picture and all but a confrontation over something that silly is unnecessary

As others have said, I believe it is okay to put junk into the trash cans except when they are overflowing.
