Sorry for the inconvenience.
Thank you for the clarification albeit it should have already been obvious to most (….maybe I assume too much?).

There are 5, good size trash cans at our postal station. What are their purpose if we can put junk mail in them?

Do not necessarily disagree but if the can is loaded, as shown in the pic OP provided, at least have the common sense to bring the junk mail home or place in a bin where it will fit and not risk blowing all over the place

People are told to not put DOG WASTE in the trash cans. If people didn’t put junk mail in them, there would be no need for trash cans there at all.

They need to put a sign on all trash cans that reads:
"Please do not put trash in the trash cans."

Exactly!!!! Self evident you would think…… but maybe not for some slobs.

Told by whom?

I've never seen any such sign at our postal station...

But then again, I rarely walk the dog to the postal station, so it's a non-issue...

I’m curious why no one has suggested that recycle bins be placed at the mail stations?

Because TV doesn't do the typical recycling with the blue bins...

I always strike out my name/address (and sometimes account number) with a black marker on any and all mail before I pitch them... these days you cannot trust anyone (sadly).

Just one question----who is "they"????

Would that be the United States Postal Service which is the entity that "saves enormous labor costs"? Or are you suggesting that it should be that "evil, greedy developer" that needs to babysit mature adults to guide them into correct behavior???

Let's see----maybe 5 pieces of junk mail each for 800 homes = 4,000 pieces of mail stuffed into a few trash cans, overflowing often, OR, just maybe, a homeowner transports 5 ounces of mail home and the load is divided 800 ways. I also question how many homes are "a mile or more" away from their postal station. I'm sure there are some, but not many.

Good answer. Personal feelings do not constitute good decisions. Trash cans have no other purpose than junk mail. Signs will tell you not to put dog poop in the cans. Are there any signs against junk mail?

Who said, “We can’t put junk mail in the trash cans?” So why have trash cans? Someone needs to get a life and worry about why they get up set about junk mail in trash cans. Want to get upset, watch what’s happening in Ukraine.

Wrong. The trash cans are for trash. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with trash being put in trash cans. That’s why they are there in the first place.
