Good way to get yourself in trouble with the police, if you confront the ones that you deem being unsafe. I wear mine but if I didn't and you bothered me, I would instruct you where you could wear your mask.

If Publix isn't going to fulfill their requirement to us on their signs requiring mask be worn they shouldn't posted. Also, they should not advertise it. So, if you are shopping at Publix watch out there is a lot of people not wearing masks and they are not going to require then to wear the mask; regardless of the signs they put in the front of the store. I have no problem with individuals who have a valid medical reason for not wearing masks. However, they should have a letter from their doctor. If I had a medical condition requiring I could not wear a mask; I would have a letter from my doctor. It wouldn't be hard to get. Publix is just not going to honor their advertisement of requiring masks. I thought the people of the villages would like to know.
I would not expect an employee, even a store manager to risk getting into a confrontation with anyone regarding the wearing of a mask. There are inconsiderate and self centered individuals everywhere, even here in the friendliest home town. No one knows how mentally stable or agitated anyone is that’s near where you are. Oh and some who live here or around here are just plain stupid.

As long as it is not against the law, there will be people who refuse to obey store policies. There'll be people who refuse to obey store policies even when there IS a law against their behavior. In those cases, the management calls the police.

Store managers should not have to put their lives at risk to enforce a store policy. At the present time, there is SO much division about EVERYTHING in this country, that someone just looking at someone else can trigger a shooting.

The point of saying that masks are required, is to INCREASE the number of people wearing masks in the store. That has worked. It is absolutely successful. There are still some people who don't wear masks in the store. But the number of people who DON'T wear them has gone down significantly.

What's even better, is that more and more people are starting to give those unmasked people "the look." You know that look - the one of disapproval. In other words - wearing a mask has become normalized, and NOT wearing one has become villainized.

Peer pressure is doing its job. And the store is reinforcing that by having the policy in the first place.

Also, regarding the OP: there aren't a "lot" of people not wearing masks in Publix. The OP witnessed TWO people not wearing masks at one Publix. Two out of over a hundred people who came and went in whichever hour that customer was in the store. Two out of over a hundred is not "a lot." It's not even "many." Or "several." Think about that. Two - is not even enough to qualify as "a few."

Also, to the OP - you didn't follow those gentlemen around - and if you had, I would've expected someone to call the police and accuse you of stalking them. If you had, you might have discovered that the manager DID talk to them, and they DID say they had a medical excuse. And - according to the law - there is absolutely nothing can do about that. Once they say they have a medical excuse, that's the end of the discussion.

Relax, keep your distance from people who aren't wearing masks, and try not to stress over something you can't control.
Businesses have every right to decide who they will do business with and under what circumstances. A business has the right to require that customers wear a mask and has every right to tell them to leave if they are not wearing one. If the customer refuses, the business may call the police and the police should escort the person off the property. No law is required.

Online ordering is really nice. It eliminates all the hassles one encounters when going out.

I haven't been to Publix since March. I asked the reliable fellow who I am married to about the mask situation at Publix and at Bed Bath and Beyond where I sent him yesterday. He said he doesn't see people at Publix on 466 ever without masks since they put up the signs and he said both times he went to Bed, Bath and Beyond over the weekend he didn't see anyone without masks, ditto Lowes.

I don't know what anyone would or should do if they see someone without masks. I would just continue on as if I didn't see them, giving them a wide berth. I think common sense dictates not trying to direct another's activity in a public place. And good manners. I am from Ohio. My mother said; Mind your own business.

Default No masks at Public!

I will not shop at public stores because they don’t care. Walmart stores are stopping people without masks they care if you live or die. So are other stores in the villages who care about customers. I fire the manager or demote that person.

I agree with you. "Mind your own business" is good advice.
However, I have shopped at Walmart, Publix and Lowes this week and have seen plenty of folks not wearing masks. Especially Lowes. But, I wear mine so I don't care what they do. I don't stand in front of any of them chatting, so even if they were to spit I doubt it would effect me.
Life is full of challenges and threats. Being in my '70s, I will not push my blood pressure by worrying about what others do unless I REALLY feel a threat to my family. I have heard enough "but what ifs" on here to know that "but if" a frog had wings, it wouldn't bump it's @** when it jumps, as the saying goes.
It is obvious that Mass Hysteria is still present in The Villages.

Don't worry, be happy.

Why? NO ONE has said that a mask is "essential."

I was at southern trace Publix. Two rescue squad members entered store without masks. I was shocked at their carelessness. The manger saw them, talked to them, went to back room and got two masks for them to wear.

I appreciate the effort you made by informing management. It is too bad they did not uphold their own rules.
