Years ago I was at beautiful Sky Meadows in northern Virginia. When I went to use the restroom, there were several ladies waiting to use their restroom, but I went into the single-stall men's room, finished, and walked away. I thought about it later and realized I should have told the ladies they were welcome to use the men's room and we should form a single line to wait for the first available restroom.

A few weeks ago in Silver Springs state park, I went to use the restroom and found the same situation - a line for the women's restroom but none for the single stall men's room. I told the women they could use the men's room. When a young guy came up, I told him there was a woman in the men's room and asked him to wait until it was free. He agreed and thought it was a fair thing to do.

IMO he may have been boorish in the execvution, however I see nothing wrong with his expectation that the men's room is for men. Did we get the pronouns of the individuals waiting in line? That could make this go in a totally different direction.

I just chastised my husband for NOT holding the door open. Sorry, guys. Seems you just can’t win.

The women (I am one) should have moved aside and let the man use the men's bathroom. That's my opinion and the polite thing to do. After all it's a 'men's room" and most men don't impede on a "ladies room."

When using a “single user” men’s restroom at a Rec Center, I recommended all single user restrooms be remarked with “family” signs instead of men’s or women’s signs.

With a single user restroom, there’s no need to make them gender-specific.

My experience has been that women’s restroom lines are often more frequent and/or longer than men’s lines so making single user restrooms non-gender specific would benefit women more than men.

The obvious detail being left out is which plumbing fixture he needed to use.
If it was the toilet, then he should have waited.
However if it was the urinal then, no harm no foul. Although at a golf course, my first inclination would be to go behind a tree.
I feel confident, that none of the ladies involved saw something they had not seen before, nor was any of them so shocked, that they were overcome by the vapors. ;-)

I wouldn't care. If I had to go badly enough AND there was no one in the mens' room, I'd let someone know I was going in there, and I'd go in there and do my business and get out.

I wouldn't be offended if a man did the same in the ladies' room, as long as he aimed his business and made sure the seat was in the "down" position when he was done.

Can not imagine you would want to use a mens room. We do not have piano players, a coffee bar, concierge soap and towel service like the ladies room does.
