Avon 'Skin so soft' works as a repellent.
Brewers yeast tablets work as well, but you have to take them regularly, and 2-3 weeks before exposure. Once in system they work well.

After living in TV for 5 years, I can honestly say
that I’ve not been bitten by a mosquito once.
That truly amazes me, but in full disclosure,
I was bitten once by a no-see-‘em.
I live south of 466 just north of Lake Miona.

how funny that is. years ago it was avon skin so soft. owners were loading up their pets with it, which was fine, it just took a few shampoos to get it all out for grooming. thx for the tip!

Yes, and you can drink beer regularly and the yeast in it will repel the pests. Probably people also.

Its a surprise to a lot of people including us. We have been here since 2007 and we never complained about the mosquitoes in all that time. This year the mosquitoes problem has been significant in many areas. We have been to both Sumter landing sq and Brownwood where the band on several occasions has requested mosquito repellant from the audience they were being bitten so bad. We have been to 2 driveway socials and the mosquitoes drove the people away at dusk. If you on the golf courses at dusk you need spray. Awful, we have called Sumter county about the issue and they sprayed right away but there is only so often you can call. I think the problem is they are saving money and we have been told they now spray based on traps they put out and the number of bugs caught has to be greater than a magic number before they spray. Before this new "scientific" method they had a schedule that they sprayed on. The only way for them to get the picture is CALL and complain or hibernate and don't go out of the house at dusk.

Not a fan of mosquitoes, but DEFINITELY not a fan of spraying of chemicals. I'll deal with the mosquitoes over the chemicals. Avon skin so soft oil is something to consider to put on.

Where did you hear about the "saving money"? The county has been using the trap and count method for a long time.

The saving money part I made up since I determine it was cheaper to spray based on trap count vs scheduled spraying. This was based on numerous scientific calculations and a good Burbon Old Fashion > Actually I'm not sure about the scientific calculations but after a 2nd Old Fashion, it still seems like it to me. BTW I checked #25 and it doesn't indicate when they started the trap count method.

I have trouble remembering the PB score or who served but I think?? the person I talked to at that number provided in that quote (when I asked them to spray our area) indicated it was a new method and they are also counting on people who have an issue in an area to let them know so they can spray that area. I can't say I'm crazy about spraying but I do think it's better than mosquitos driving people inside at dawn or having them spread whatever disease they spread after biting and sucking blood from their last host.

Wow, really? Play nice everyone. Us 'south off 44ers' need to spread the word about unusually high amounts of mosquitoes. Let the businesses know it will effect their business, too.
