When you moved south of 44 you didn’t know where the movie theater was located?

It’s a money loser and isn’t going to open.

I went to many movies here in the Villages at all three theaters when there were very few seats open. One movie I recall had EVERY seat taken.
Ahh…the good ole days

When I moved south of 44 there was a theater in Brownwood. My psychic ability wasn’t working so I didn’t know they would close it permanently once I bought my house. Now, i don’t care because I like the Leesburg recliners way more and go there but you could be less rude. I agree it’s not a money maker. You could’ve just said that.

Golf courses rarely make money unless they charge a lot for membership. Google it.

The upkeep of golf courses is quite expensive.

They keep making this argument that the movie theaters were shut down because they were not money makers. Neither are the golf courses. They are an attraction to keep people moving here as were the THREE movie theaters.

A recent study shows that 75% of golf courses in America make profits, while the rest drown in debt and bankruptcy. Golf courses make money based on membership fees, pro shop sales, green fees, and food and beverage sales.

Once theater owners figure out they can make a ton of money showing live football and baseball games in their theaters, then they will open. The beer alone will pay the staff.

Discount Tuesdays at AMC. We saw Oppenheimer in assigned, reclining seats for $6 a ticket. 👍

Operating movie theaters is a loss maker now on average. Covid changed the economics of operating movie theaters. For example:

AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: AMC) has had negative earnings since 2019 before Covid.

Similar effects for Cinemark Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:CNK).

If someone wants to argue that reopening the Brownwood movie theater would make an operating profit, fine, argue away. But at least give us some empirical evidence. Top line revenues and profits are not the same.

Comparing the economics of golf courses to those of movie theaters is just silly. Golf courses and movie theaters don’t share many of important characteristics.

They will probably turn it into high end apartments.

Not likely to ever want to voluntarily spend money that might benefit Hollywood. Put some new restaurants in Brownwood.
