Does any one know if There are any special rules for kids playing golf. My kids and grand kids are coming and they play, but I can't find if there are any restrictions other than guest passes for the younger ones (10&12). Other than common sense rules I thought I had seen some type of restriction on them.

I seem to remember seeing somewhere that they were not allowed if they played better than their seniors!

No rules for playing golf USGA rules apply.
Forget about common sense, thats out the window when grand kids are involved. UNDER 14 they DO NOT drive Golf Carts, Thats the Law! You should see them when they are in golf carts, they break every rule of the road.

Young players must be evaluated by an instructor at a championship course. Not sure what the age break is, but a call to any championship course will get you all the info you need.

I think they are allowed to play if they are 12. Asian Three posted that she has some young-er ones who are very talented, were evaluated by the pro and allowed to play.


Where is Bogie Shooter, he always knows all this stuff.

As long as they know the rules and can play expeditiously (pick up after 6!).

I agree. We got behind two grandparents with a young girl about 8 or 9 years old on the Palmetto in March.

It was obviously her first time playing, as she was swinging and missing 4 or 5times for every shot and had at least 8 strokes on every hole just to reach the green on par 3's!

The one guy we were playing with got frustrated and left after 4 holes. We continued on in the hope they would let us play through, but they never did. So we headed home after the 7th green. On the way back, I went to the starter to complain, but as it was dusk, they had already left.

So, if the grandchildren are experienced and can keep up the pace of play, I would be glad to see them on the course. It they are not, best take them to the range, it will prevent a lot of frustrated golfers getting backed up behind you.

Even if over 10, people need to make sure they don't delay play for others. When our son was first learning my husband would drive from the T and then drop a ball near his for my son to hit having him try to match dad. pick up ball and then drop again near dads. This worked to keep it moving while allowing him to get a feel for the game. Just an idea.

Have fun with your grandkids. My grandson (8) had a ball golfing here the last 2 summers. And the people we golfed with were great with him. I had more fun watching him get pars that he did getting them. He just thinks it is normal(lol)
