Default Moving to TV

Hello Folks;

First, let me apologize if this has been asked before - after a brief search here, I couldn't quite find the info. I was looking for.

I'm a single guy, 61, and will be visiting TV the last week of Sept. from NY. Will be looking at some houses - specifically, I want a home not too close to neighbors. Really, looking for as isolated a property as possible within TV.

Aslo, is it necessary to have a car in TV, or is a golf cart enough to get around?

Comments/suggestions are very welcome.

Thank you.

As isolated as possible? Really? TV is not really a place to come to be isolated. BUT, I can tell you that the new sections are out of the question...things are pretty close together even if you have a huge house. I would imagine the older sections would be better and maybe even in the original section...which is mostly manufactured homes. I am sure other folks will answer this better then I can.
You can get around the villages pretty much in a golf cart. If you want to venture out of TV, you need a car. However, I have seen a lot of people post that they just rent a car when they need one and that it is cheaper then owning one.
I hope when you come here as see how friendly most of us are, you might rethink the isolated part? Anyway, I wish you the best and I hope you find something that is just right for you..Take care.

When you consider homes, look at premier homes, because they are the only ones that will provide any isolation, and that's not really all that much(most are less than 50 feet apart. The only other choice would be to buy an entire village, and only build one house.

The historic section definitely has some large lots and you could tear down the manufactured home and build a site built home there. But, why would you want to be isolated? You can grow privacy hedges; you could buy a courtyard villa; you could enjoy your neighbors. Isolation and The Villages just don't seem to go together to me.

No problem on the golf cart. As was said, you will need a car if you leave The Villages.

Default Coralway, I'm a fairly newbie here in the Villages, and

I too wanted some isolation. I do a lot of writing and I wanted to be sure I
could have that 'quiet' space, and I have dogs and I wanted them to have their space. I bought a 3 bedroom 2 bath cyv (preowned) in Duval and
am thrilled with my privacy (yes, I guess some could call it isolation). It is fairly large, but feels even larger with vaulted ceilings. Loads of space and
storage, and no fees for lawn maintenance to speak of. Look at the Bonita
model for the 3/2...

I have a private back and side yard and unless I go outside to garden in the front,I wouldn't know I have neighbors. And even at that, the neighbors each seem to respect their sense of privacy and mine. But lovely if I need to borrow something or a neighbor needs something of mine (rare). It was a super choice for me and I am happy. The cvy is large, spacious, comfortable and has what you might want to consider. The yards can be cement and lawn area, or, cement and hardscape, and fenced save the front entry. I have magnificent plants and trees in my back yardso the house feels very private. Even the lanai in the back...backs up to my yard and a cement wall. I hear nothing but the birds if you know what I mean.

Don't think you could really live in the Villages without a car. To get to places like Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, etc., it is easier for me to take the car...food shopping as well. And, should it rain (as in thunder storm), you could get caught for awhile in a remote location with frozen food defrosting! However, if you lived close to say Lake Sumter Landing, you could do doctors and food shopping with a golf cart. There are taxi services here also...so, maybe you could try without a car first and see how you do, or rent a car for a month until you get nested here.

Good luck with your search, it is a lovely place to live. Very peaceful. Most importantly, when I seek not so much isolation I can find it easily and happily.

Coralway:

Isolation does seem to contradict The Villages Life Style!

That said, you do not need to be hooked to your neighbors day in and day out! It is important, I think, that you and your neighbors interact on a regular basis. But, you don't necessarly need to be 'permanently' attached!

As a single, I decided initially on a Designer home, without the implied restrictions of a courtyard villa neighborhood. In some respects, the villa style may very well suit your lifestyle, but it really is something that should be investigated!

Whichever way you go, please be welcomed to The Villages!

Well, Coralway, I agree with SWR......"Isolation and The Villages"....they just don't jive!

I remember when I first joined this forum, there was an ad that used to appear occasionally from a place called "Lake Weir". The videos were actually quite humorous....I thought perhaps it might be joke. After looking at a couple ads, I knew Lake Weir wouldn't be for a person who enjoyed people and did NOT want isolation. Perhaps, if you REALLY want isolation, you might want to check it out. But for those of us who want fun, activity and wonderful people, stick with TV!

Thanks everyone - appreciate your comments.

Will be visiting TV mid November for a month to look around and get a lay of the land.

On another board, I posted that I am looking for a house to rent for a month. If anyone has leads............

Thank you.

You do not need to be in the historic section or in the premier sections...there are several villages that have large lots at the ends of cul-de-sacs, corner lots that have nothing on 3 sides...there are many options. send me a message of I can be of help!

Coralway, On the other part of TV that you posted in, I listed the names of some web sites to check for rentals in TV. Good luck to you.
