Were you walking around the square with drinks or were you sitting in the golf cart with drinks?

Driving or sitting in a golf cart on public roads with open containers or after drinking is no different than driving a car in the same manner, the same laws apply.

Now if you were not in the golf cart then I would be very curious as to why you were stopped. unless the open containers were in the driving area cup holders.

So that leads to another question: If the golf cart is backed in to a parking spot with a view of the nites entertainment and the cup holders are mounted to the rear in a non-seating section of the cart would that still qualify as an open container in a vehicle?

Oh Well, win some lose some. Have you noticed all the bent signs on the cart trails lately? Maybe they should also run some checks on the cart trails also along with the street enforcement. With the increase in traffic on both the road ways and the cart trails, everyone needs to take more care when driving with less drinking.

Let me say immediately that I am not much of a drinker. In fact I never purchased an alcoholic drink in either square in the 5 years that I have lived here and the half dozen times I gone to events at the square (s).

After reading "busted"s" post I have an even less interest in going

I would guess there is more to this story, but even if there isn't, just because we live in The Villages, doesn't mean we are above the criminal and traffic laws of our community. If the police ignore it on the square, do they ignore it when you are driving down the street? Where do you want them to draw the line?

Florida law states no open containers in vehicles, and that includes golf carts...even when they are stopped...same for cars. You also cannot be sitting on said vehicle. There are exceptions for buses and motor homes in some instances.

Guess if one wants to sit at the square and have a drink, then bring some portable chairs and set them up in front of or in back of your cart.

This law isn't anything new, and the residents of TV aren't exempt from it.

Sorry you had to find out about this, the hard way.

Glad to hear we have concerned police doing a great job at keeping us safe and keeping The Villages a desirable place to be. Kudos

Not sure if giving a ticket for having a beer in a golf cart is "Kudos" for police doing a great job and keeping us safe.Do not think I need the police to protect me from them two. Just my opinion.

If the police didn't give the tickets and everyone just drank & drank......
And then they drove their golfcarts on the trails and ran into you head on, wouldn't you have wanted them to protect you by issuing the tickets? Yeah I know it is just your opinion.

Might have a different opinion if "them two" had hit your cart or you on their way home or if they got confused and drove off the cart trails on to the road and got hit by a car, say your car. Drinking and driving has to be taken seriously. Have already seen a couple carts in the auto lanes, with the increase in traffic everyone needs to be extra careful.

Did you know that not to long ago, Florida like most states had drive up liquor sales. Drunk driving went down when Florida closed the drive up windows. New Mexico also closed all there's. Was one of the smartest things that each state did.

Yes, I feel so much safer now. But what stops the contractors from killing us?

You can walk around the square all you want with alcoholic drinks, but DON'T sit in your golf cart or car !! You will definitely get a ticket if they catch you !
