Why play chicken with a golf cart. Walk on the oncoming side to see the carts coming, take one step to the left onto the grass. After the cart passes by step back on the path. Simple as that.

Not always as simple as you make it sound. Depends alot on landscaping.
Anyway, why can't cart drivers accept some responsibility for creating a danger to walkers, bikers and others? What makes cart drivers feel they have the right to shove others off to the side onto wet grass or mud. Seems rude to me. Cart driver can wait in their nice, comfy seat until safe to pass. Curtesy goes both ways, you know.

Yes, that was unexpected and I would walk like you did facing oncoming traffic. But now considering the unexpected danger, if i were you, I would buy one of those mirrors that attach to glasses or sun glasses which allow you to see behind you. The extra insurance against getting hit would be worth the price of the mirror attachment and the time involved getting used to it.
.....Think of it as a warning because another driver might be passing and lose control and take out more than just an arm.
........Also, this incident brings up the question of whether it would be safer if ALL golf carts had the SAME top speed. It could be 20 or 25 MPH. Because when there are carts with a multiple of TOP SPEEDS, then you assure a situation where PASSING is unavoidable. And your NEAR miss shines a spotlight on the problem.

All "golf carts" already are not supposed to go over 20. But many of our good, law abiding and honest citizens don't want to believe or adhere to this. They all have their excuses.

Same happened to my husband but the guy didn’t like the fact he cut the gap on the security arm and slammed on his brake for my husband to rear end him. Jerks are everywhere . He was in a El Camino . Needles to say you do take your life in your own hands around here some shouldn’t be driving a tricycle never mind a vehicle with a motor. I had a near encounter with a GC as I stepped off the curb at a traffic signal at o dark thirty cart had NO lights on. I now walk the golf course after dark much safer I’ll take my chances with the alligators anyday.

Actually this is a very fine topic because it presents a typical Villages problem and some people can suggest ways to mitigate that problem. For example, they could build wider passing lanes for the Golf Carts every mile or two. The walkers could wear mirrors to see traffic behind them. The golf carts could all be required to have the same top speed to discourage passing. There could be cameras and any cart driver endangering a walker or a cyclist could get a ticket - if license plate numbers were required. And there have been other ideas and suggestions.
.......I think that it is pathetic that ANY bicyclist would have to sell their bike because Golf Cart drivers are dangerous and obnoxious. When it comes to being environmentally friendly, a bicycle is using no gasoline and giving off zero pollution. i believe that gas (not electric) golf carts pollute more than automobiles and trucks. So, in my opinion, bicyclists and walkers DESERVE their OWN trails more than golf carts, which are made to drive on golf courses and are NOT made for personal STREET transportation. They have too high of a center of gravity and weak brakes and shock absorbers. They are just not made for the street. Today there is an article about one golf cart knocking another golf cart over on its side and hospitalizing the driver. I would imagine that the high center of gravity and weak brakes of one or both of those carts played a role in that accident. And I know of a nurse in The Villages that speaks about the GREAT number of head injuries that occur from golf cart accidents (and not on the golf course where they belong).

Cart when neither of you can go more than 20 mph, is it some type of inferiority complex? Foolishness.

The problem is that SOME can go WAY more than 20 MPH. Some have their top speed limiter CRANKED way up to 35 or even 40 MPH. Apparently there is about ZERO police enforcement of cart top speeds. Yet, today there is another case of a cart hitting another cart and a serious injury to one driver.
