Captain Siemer and Sqt. Dodge are avid riders in the villages also.
I have seen presents of police golf cart north of 466 on the multiuse path once by Sqt. Dodge 4 months ago, but never seen them south of 466. I was also told that due to the multiuse path being on Villages private property that their authority is limited unless there is an accident or drunken or impaired driver. Folks have your head on a swivel my husband has been hit twice in the last 5 years!

I would like to ask the question........why IS the Sumter County Police Department understaffed? When the Villages can put up some of America's largest Christmas trees at all the squares. And WHY do all the roundabouts have to be adorned with annual flowers (with their HIGH upkeep costs) instead of perennials flowers or bushes? In general, The Villages are more about FORM than FUNCTION and that is a BIG problem. And that is WHY the Police in the whole Villages are understaffed. I guess i answered my own 1st question.

I guess she had forgotten she had a steering wheel.

A cyclist going the other way made some amusing comment about the driver, so maybe she has seen it all before, too.
Imagine how much worse it would have been had you been jogging WITH traffic.

I learned some things from this thread. Such as that the Sumter Co. police dept. is UNDERSTAFFED. I SUSPECTED that, but was unsure. Understaffed Police seem to make for a bad combination when mixed with elderly people in dense communities driving DRUNK after nightly entertainment events. Another problem with understaffed Police is that The Villages are a potential soft target for insurrection violence.
