People get distracted.
I practice defensive walking - no joke.
Defensive walking? Does that consist of wearing a foam type water life preserver around your waist like a car bumper and a helmet?

That's the point of TRAFFIC TICKETS. Ticket a few and the word spreads around and then everyone of the 150,000 will voluntarily change their illegal governor speed back to 20 MPH. The same principle as people knowing that they would go to jail for a LONG time for murdering someone.

I'd love to see a radar gun reading of a cart going 40. I've lived here and driven a golf cart for 11 years and maybe twice, MAYBE, I encountered one that appeared to be going about 30 based on speed differential. I can't imagine 40, ever. Yet it is one of your favorite repeat posts. Any proof, WHATSOEVER, of a cart going 40?

If people were honest, considerate and respectful, wouldn't need any. But, .... they aren't, are they.

No radar gun, but driving on Hendry through Collier, the speed limit is 30. I was doing 30, per car speedo and a gc went by me pretty quick. Given that auto speed is usually 1 or 2 below reading, that cart was likely going over 30.

Some people must have a "sixth sense"...

Either that or they just hate "Snow Birds" and blame them for everything...

Driving a golf cart on an MMP like you drive a car. . . because golf courses don't have lanes like cars drive on.
talking to the cashiers like they care about us and our stories about children and grandchildren.. . .
parking in handicap spots because well, the parking lot is crowded. . .

. . . . .

my species is near the end of its existence. .
I see all of that in the Spring, Summer and Fall as well...

Anyway, why can't cart drivers accept some responsibility for creating a danger to walkers, bikers and others? What makes cart drivers feel they have the right to shove others off to the side onto wet grass or mud. Seems rude to me. Cart driver can wait in their nice, comfy seat until safe to pass. Curtesy goes both ways, you know.
The vast majority do exactly as you've described...

Unfortunately, there are jerk golf cart drivers and jerk pedestrians that some posters feel the need to harp about...

Actually read it fairly carefully.

.....Think of it as a warning because another driver might be passing and lose control and take out more than just an arm.
........Also, this incident brings up the question of whether it would be safer if ALL golf carts had the SAME top speed. It could be 20 or 25 MPH. Because when there are carts with a multiple of TOP SPEEDS, then you assure a situation where PASSING is unavoidable. And your NEAR miss shines a spotlight on the problem.
Since when does "top speed" = "driving speed"?

My car's top speed is something like 140 mph. I've never gone faster than 85 in it...

If you have someone whose golf cart is limited to 20-25 mph, and they are poking along at 10 mph, someone is going to want to pass them...

And yes, we should all walk around with mirrors surrounding our heads...
