No, a dog won't crap where they eat or sleep (which is why crate training works)...
They will crap in their own yard all the time...

Probably the second most fabricated misconception in The Villages, behind that rumor. Your property starts at the street. The easement is for utilities and what can be built where. It is your property and your right to keep people off of it. Ask me how I know.

I agree with you completely -- I can handle myself as well.
I've had gentleman codgers here actually get crappy with me in person for nothing-burgers (usually something they did -- although I'm not perfect, either). I'm younger, taller, and stockier than most all villagers, yet people can really be a-holes here, and I've had words with a few in the Friendliest Hometown in Florida. Outside the bubble you size up people and make adjustments to your angst based on the probability of incoming pain. Here, whether it is the alcohol or just a life of privilege, people just won't back down -- in print or person. I've had to walk away because it was just too silly to continue to escalate. |

I did some soul-searching today about this post and found myself "guilty" of allowing my dog to pee and poop on a neighbor's "private property".
That said, I always (100%) clean-up after with plastic bags, etc. Those of us who are here from Northern climes may say "we have sidewalks and treelawns (parkways) up North as dog poop venues". But here in The Villages, each home's property extends to the street. How to handle this? Not sure, since owners can't post signs. But, I will be more conscious as to a) finding a non-built corner lot and b) be on the watch for trigger-happy sprinkler operators....thx for the heads-up! |

On a different note, my wife and I were fixated on buying a home with a fence.
Why -- the privacy and, we had dogs. When viewing the fenced corner lot homes, we often heard dogs bark when they sensed us stirring next door or a few houses away. Surprisingly, to us, we ended up getting a home with a kissing lanai. We still have pets, we just have to walk them. We made a decision to avoid the potential for dogs barking in the enclosed back yards in the surrounding area. We avoided the unattended backyard dogs, but now they visit our unfenced corner lot. The dogs, the dogs....... Quote:

Wake up people we are in sardine packed community Like all rest of cities. Correction packs in closer than other cities. We knew this when we elected to move here where pets are allowed. Maybe some should of moved out in the sticks where nobody near for miles? Suck it up, or Guard on you’re sardine lot waiting for dog to walk by, or move.

You can't clean up pee. It leaves yellow stains on grass.

We had dogs on the farm and whey would bring the cows in in the evening. . We never brought the dogs in the house, although they could use the barn when they wanted to. We allowed them to be "DOGS". We did not treat them as children which is unfair to them as they want to be dogs which is not neglecting them. They loved to run the property and play. It is really weird to hear owners talk to the dog like they are human, pull them on a leash, pick up after them and so on. They are dogs and want to be treated like dogs. They want to run free, be petted, fed, being outdoors, not dressed up like they are some form of a child. Children want to be children and dogs want to be dogs.
