Default Army Guy:

Do you need permission? Do this, pull out your Mortgage papers and look at the bottom where it says "owner". If your name is there, that will answer your questions.

You cow tow to a bunch of bozos long enough and they will be telling you what to eat and what kind of toilet paper you have to buy.

I have done everything myself (I'm not super builder by any means, but I am handy). So I do everything myself and no one has ever said a word. Course we are blessed with a bunch of like thinking neighbors (not a snitch in the bunch). That's a VERY important item when it comes to owning a home in these parts.

"You don't ask ............. I don't tell."

Neat bumper sticker. Went like this: "It's God's job to judge terrorists. Our job is to arrange the meeting!"

Be a gentleman, remove your hat/cap when entering a building and dining out!

Well, after looking at Mortgage papers as SABRMnLgs has suggested, be sure to look at the DECLARATION OF RESTRICTIONS which you signed and agreed to when you purchased your home in The Villages, which is a Deed Restricted Community.

If you don’t have a copy handy, you can go to the Nuts and Bolts section of this forum and view the samples that have been posted there:

Section 2.5 After the Home has been constructed, no reconstruction, additions, alterations, or modifications to the Home, or in the locations and utility connections of the Home will be permitted except with the written consent of the Developer, or an architectural review committee appointed by the Developer.

Section 4.1(e) Owner does hereby give and grant unto the Developer a continuing lien in the nature of a mortgage upon the Homesite of the Owner, which lien shall have priority as of the recording of this Declaration, and is superior to all other liens and encumbrances, except any institutional first mortgage.

So, think twice about the problems you may be creating for yourself if you ignore these restrictions.

Default As I said ............. cow tow

Edv makes a good point. If you got one of those deed restriction things, you will note that you own your home in name only. They have every right to tell you anything and everything you can do to your house I guess. As I said, soon it will be what to eat and the brand of toilet paper.

Like mosquitoes, they live in groups. Try to find a place that has none and you will be much happier. Took us 4 moves before we found a nice place. Better yet, get a place from a private seller. Steer clear of the Villages people. Nice folks but very controlling.

Well said, Ed. Living in a place with deed restrictions is not for everyone...

Not to worry Jerry, we knew this when we bought here. It has been the same back in Ohio for a long time too. Deed restrictions are our friends.

I agree. They're not all bad. If you know about them going in and can live with them, they have some definite benefits IMO. As katezbox said they aren't for everyone.

Hey all, went to Entry Point and they were terrific. Ordered our custom window. They said the same thing, that approval not needed, but needed for storm door. Go figure.

Just so you know...
If you're thinking of a storm door for your cyv, make sure you have enough clearance to open it with your hanging porch light. You might have to take a few links out of the chain.

Default Still waiting - Entrypoint

We ordered our door and side panels on December 19, 2012; 4-6 week for delivery; we called asking the status of the order on January 22th; was told they would call back with an update; no callback, I went to their store and asked the status; was told that a voice mail mesage was on our phone, we never received the message. The windows were not in.

A week later we received a call saying they had a cancellation and could install the door glass and side panels on Jan 29th. The installer arrived; however, the side panels ordered were 7 " our existing side panels are 8"; went back to the store , there was nothing that could be done; had to reorder the 8 " side panels as a rush orde; 6 to 8 week delvery with and additional $60 charge for the side windows

Called today , Feb 25th, windows are not in and they do not know when they will be in; we were now told this was a custom order.

The people were very cordial and bussiness like untill we called checking on the order status on Jan 22nd and the subsequet issue with side panels; their demeanor changed to us and them.

It is now 9 weeks and we have no information as to when the windows woud be delivered and installed.

We would gladly cancel the order; however, that was a red flag when I mentioned it the vendor.

They may have been a reputable vendor to deal with for people, however, based on our experience we could not and would not recommend this vendor.

Buyer be ware.

Default Another Vote For Perry's Entrypoint

They have a great selection and do high quality work for very affordable prices. We've had Perry's replace our front door, side lights and transom glass. They also did a beautiful job of replacing our shower door with a 1/2-inch solid, engraved glass decorative door.
