Default New Sweetbay

Has the new Sweetbay near the new library opened yet? If not, does anyone know when it is scheduled to open?

Default Sweetbay

Thanks. That's disappointing. We left in May, and I was hoping something was going on with it.

Heard from a Publix employee that Publix is opening a store on 466A across from the library and that Sweetbay has pulled out as a result. Don't know for sure if that's true for sure.....

I would like to have Sweetbay over Publix any day. We already have a Publix down here.

So I have to throw out this question:

Why would Publix build a new store 2 miles down the road from a current store in a location that would not be golf cart accessible???

I agree with you about the 2 miles down the road. However, the new Sumter county service building will be golf cart accessible, as reported here earlier.

I would have to agree with you, SPK, doesn't make a lot of sense to build another Publix at the west end of 466a.

A couple of months ago, an employee at the Colony Publix told me that the next Publix would be on 44 and would open in early 2013.

I guess we will have to wait and see. Sweet bay on the south side of 466a, cart accessible, makes a lot more sense.

You are correct. However, the earlier post stated that the possible Publix would be across from the County bldg on 466A. I read that as north of the County bldg in that non TV owned land that is for sale and would unlikely be golf cart accessible.

Publix is pretty busy now and with approx. 20,000 people moving in South of 466A it could probably use another store that would also draw from Wildwood. It may be golf cart accessible since the Library will be according to the sign in front. I kind of thought that Publix would open a store on 44 more to the west near Brownwood to handle all the new residents. That would put a little more distance between stores, give the residents a closer store who live further South, and give us the option of a Sweet Bay. By the way, in S. Florida I know of several Publix stores within 3 miles or less of each other.

I was told that the Sweetbay will be opened in two years. That is the amount of time before The Villages has developed the property leading up to it with the required carts paths and housing. My source was the commercial real estate person working for The Villages.
