Default What new decorating trend are you seeing?

In colors I think the new big accent colors are the oranges, from burnt orange/rust, through a vivid red orange to an almost neon orange. (Orange hasn't ever been my personal favorite but it looks great in a neutral room or a predominantly black and beige room or beige or white with black accents or furniture.)

Blue greens on walls and upholstery are shown a lot again this year and look so nice here in Florida.

The magazines I am noticing this in are Traditional Home, House Beautiful, Florida Design and the new catalogs from Ballard design.

What are you seeing as a new look in home decor?

They just started a music forum ...so I am trying to get a much smaller group of people to talk about what I love to chat about.

The decorating group I am trying to start has two places left. We have not begun. I feel 30 may be too large for some homes if we have it at each others house. So whoever P.M.s me next will be on the list to call. I HATE to leave anyone out but I don't want anyone to feel overwhelmed by a big group.

Back to what colors you love in today's rooms or any rooms or any new look you are drawn to...or old looks..

We just painted 2 walls in Patrick's bedroom a burnt orange/copper color! When I started putting that paint on the walls, I was really worried....it seemed so dark, but it really makes the room pop! I am glad we did it....now we just need to put up his Winnie the Pooh and Tigger pictures.....

We own an Iris and just had Tom Campbell's crew come in and paint our arches inside our front door, leading into our dining room and also leading into our master bedroom. He also painted our back kitchen wall in our nook and above the kitchen cabinets. When they were done, the room did not look balanced so we ask him to paint the wall and arch leading into our kitchen. We left our wall up whereas, other folks have an open kitchen. a deep rose petal color. I was a bit worried that the color was too strong against the light beige but it seems to go nicely. Tom Campbell did a great job. We wanted a change and did not want to go with the salmon or orange look so I selected this color. Tom's wife, Carolyn gives professional advice owns her company called Choices in Color. It was her idea to paint the arches in our house.

Sounds beautiful. I am about to start adding some punches of color to our house with deep bright rose fuchsia...hard to describe in words. It looks nice with aquamarine that we have on accent walls.

It is so fun to hear what people are choosing.

I'm getting back into the art show business, I have been away from it for many years. I make Wood 3 dimensional Tropical scene artwork. With actual scenes painted on the wood. They are multi layers and I was wondering what the popular trendy colors are today. I'm a silk floral designer by trade and was always up on the trends of colors. Thanks for the tips...Actually I have been using alot of the colors mentioned in the sunsets!
thanks all!!!

Default Great Thread

Glad for these thoughts. I like to dream of what I will do there. Up North I love my warm gold pained great room---grat to give a feeling of sunshine and warmth during the dark gray months of Winter. I always wondered if a cooler color would be better in Florida...like the aquamarine...since it is often sooo hot outside...Keep the ideas coming.

For a couple of years now I have noticed that the dark woods have been popular again....at least up north that is.

I think a particular advantage (and fun) is that so many of our homes are virtually identical. We get to see the chamelian effect that color, furniture and accessories can have on the same spaces. Gracie, have you notified the people who have made it as members?

We had a stager come to our house when we put it up for sale it was amazing what she did, I took lots of pictures. One thing she did is use greenery plants every were. Another thing she did was take our bar stools out and put smaller ones with no backs and the area looked much bigger. Kathie

Would love to join, but I'm only here off & on till 2014 so I wouldn't want to take a space if it was available BUT would hope in the future to be a part of the group and host sometime..

I agree about the color Orange, I first noticed it in clothing, being a Clemson Tiger fan an always having a hard time finding Orange but the last two years it has been everywhere and now in the home whether it be the paint on the walls or in accessories..

I have always liked neutral paint colors. When I retired, I moved back home to Michigan to help with my Dad and we purchased a pre-owned home. Almost every room had a different bold, bright paint color. It wasn't something we would have done but we loved them. We were told that the owner's wife grew up in Africa as a missionary's daughter. Our living room is a dark green but the ceiling is probably 25 feet high and it looks great. They had made the 4th bedroom an office with a custom desk system and it is a bright orange. I cannot tell you how many compliments we have gotten on the paint colors. Several people have asked us for the names of the paint colors. Luckily, the previous owners left all of the paint cans!
