I think we need to realize, that with the registry these offenders are identified as such and you can bet if anything untoward happens the police will likely be knocking on those doors pretty quickly. And those living nearby will exercise more caution if they have viewed the registry and know they are in proximity.

I would prefer they are not living in TV, but until there is some form of local ordinance to exclude them, we are stuck with them.

On the other hand, what concerns me even more is the predators not listed that are in TV, that we have no way of knowing who they are and where and when they may offend.

You'd have to read between the lines of all the August posts.....plus others.

Don't waste your time; I'm sure you have more important pursuits.

I know for a fact that the majority of TV residents who are parents and grandparents also want the best environment for themselves as well as their visitors, no matter what the age. There is power in knowing. Again, now we know.

Some of those "offenders" to put it nicely....are repeat offenders.
No matter what kind of treatment they get......it isn't enough.

Quirky's suggestion is a good one.
Who did the sweeping the issue under the rug?

Thumbs up

[QUOTE=senior citizen;755468]Believe me, we are not paranoid.

Yes, I would want to know if a group of perverts are renting a home or homes in the vicinity where we would be buying a home in The Villages.

Thanks, Senior Citizen, for writing this post!

Becoming aware of who are neighbors are is just common sense!
It should be printed in our Covenants & Restrictions for each Village! (Just kidding... sort of....)

Also, be sure you're using a police website, not one labeled as "sex offenders." One such site showed three "offenders" living in the lake/golf course off of Enrique.

We do not have children living here, just visiting. I think that we are far more endangered by the very bad driving than by these nasty people.

The difference between the neighborhood of our youth and our neighborhood now is that we know who some of them are. Probably the same level of evil then and now.

Many of these offenders are childen of villagers in their thirties and forties.

Last year they arrested somebody's adult kid in his forties for swimming drunk in a pool, naked.

I find that people carry a certain level of fear with them and some of it is appropriate and some of it is misplaced. This place as far as safety in general is probably better than most places in this country. We do not work....we are very aware of people walking around the neighborhood and if someone looks out of place. We have 100 thousand sets of eyes and ears, watching out for each other.

Personally, I would think grandparents should be more concerned about their grandkids joyriding in the golf cart with friends or having a fake ID and getting drunk at City Fire than the extremely slim chance of a personal occurrence with a registered sex offender in The Villages. Lots more danger in teen drinking and driving.

Did you know that a 17 year old girl can be forced to register as a sex offender if she sends a naked picture of herself via email to her boyfriend? That is legally called distribution of child pornography.

Lots of the registered sex offenders did something stupid like public urination and get labeled a sex offender for life.

Sex offenders are generally people known to the victim.

The people who live here know and report the things happening here. We do not live in an inferior information gathering climate. We have the same level of information about this area as any other area in the U.S.

I do not think that summaries can be made by people who do not live here.

EVERYONE should pay careful attention to children at all times. Unfortunately, blood relatives too often commit sex offenses.

This place is as safe as any place in the U.S. I think it is safer than most.

If you will look at my previous post on this thread I have posted a good link to "MYTHS ABOUT SEX OFFENDERS.".

Really ??
Do you really think we are informed of neighborhood crime by our "Look on the Sunny Side" newspaper published in The Villages?
I have to depend on news released in Ocala, Fruitland Park & Leesburg to be truly informed & aware of important crime reports as well as get balanced political news .....
Now if I want to read about "TV Sorority" ..... Well, you get the idea!
I came to The Vilages as an educated, well read person looking forward to a happy, fun filled retirement....I did not leave my intellect back in Illinois with my winter coats just to listen to (or read) fairy tales & play with sex offenders!

I sense you are about to get the vapors over registered sex offenders in The Villages. I don't know how to break this to you but... but... Illinois is loaded with registered sex offenders and unregistered sex offenders. You've been living in their vicinity all your life. If you lived near Chicago, there are rumors that there is corruption in their government and the state government. So perhaps on the whole, you may be better off. Who can tell?

The Daily Sun is what it is! You do not have to purchase it to read about "TV Sorority". But then you probably don't buy it anyway, right?
Balanced political reporting from the papers you mention?.............they each have there own agenda; but of course a
well read, educated person would know that.

What I'm not getting here is why some people think that predators would want to be in an area without children? It would seem that they would want access to them, doesn't it?

But, if that's what you want to believe, Bless your heart. (I've been taking southern speak lessons.)

Dear whoever,
Does writing a MEAN post make you feel better?
I see from your past postings you are very negative in your responses.
Maybe you should try another approach....
Just saying.....

Bogie Shooter pretty much tells it like it is.

I think that there is possibly another intellectual here in The Villages.

I am pretty sure of it.

The Daily Sun publishes crimes but does NOT add to the presentation of facts much. If you want sensationalism, read the Orlando Sentinel.

The new online paper, owned by Meta Minton, no use saying it's name because it will be xxxxd out, is pretty good at telling a bit more of the story.

Nothing important is missing really, there isn't MUCH crime here.

If you wonder why we are feeling defensive, it is just simply that many of us love this place. It is now our hometown and our friends and peers live here. We network, we feel we KNOW what goes on, we have a lot of time to devote to that. This is the place where we have chosen to come to enjoy the fruits of our labors, we like it very much and are very satisfied with it. Many times people from densely populated areas carry with them the same level of preparedness against crime that they badly needed in their old lives. NO where is completely safe, but it is safer here than in Chicago, or in any large city populated with a lot of people on drugs and who belong to gangs..
