We have two registered sex offenders living in Bennington, Vermont.

One of which I know exactly who it is and where they live and what family they belong to.

Our population has always been around 16,000 souls. It might be slightly under that now.

I do not see any crimes against a child.....but never say never. Perhaps not convicted yet.

I always perceived THE VILLAGES to be an extremely SAFE place to reside, amidst people our own age.

I'm sure there are plenty out there who totally understand where I'm coming from ; thus I am not going to repeat myself.

I don't have difficulty with the English language and I don't speak "valley girl."

I've explicitly explained it. Don't believe in shoving things under the rug.
It's more an attitude of let's paint this rosy picture where there is a back story.........I respect truth. I would feel totally safe in THE VILLAGES FLORIDA. I feel safe here. But we all should know what's happening.
In one sentence.............who did this?

No-one is shoving anything about The Villages under the rug! Please don't try to needlessly alarm people. We all need to continue doing what we've been doing all along .... watch out for our kids and grandkids; and also watch out for other people's kids!

Its obvious that TV has sex offenders, like other communities, but..........is there a problem that needs addressing?
The community has less than 100,000 residents. The resolution was proposed for an annual meeting, discussed and voted on there. I know for sure that my current community does not have a problem that needs to be addressed regarding registered sex offenders.

I think he means, WHO is your one and only sex offender? Bennington has a population of about 14K.

We have 13 according to this map.

Senior, with all due respect, you may be shoving "things" under the rug. It's be stated here several times that, in essence, " Better the devil you know than the devil you don't know".

Your focus is on the registered sex offenders but if you go back and reread Sprinkler Buddy's post #11, I believe most sex offenders are still out there.

My very dear friend and her husband watched their 10 year old daughter's sweet personality disappear and by age 12, her daughter was involved in drugs. The drug abuse continued into her twenties and long story short; she barely survived but is doing well today. The turn-around began when she blurted out to her mother after a particularly horrible episode, that her cousin, (4 years older than her) had sexually molested her from age 10 to age 14. It began while he was babysitting her and her 4 siblings. This man is still out there, never prosecuted because her daughter didn't want the stigma and devastating pain revisited again and he was family. It terrifies me.

You should be suspicious of everyone, this now college grad sexual predator is free and has prestige to help mask his perverseness.

The Villages is a microcosm of the world. Things aren't as safe in Vermont as you are telling yourself.

Yes, I'm sure! I used that same link and looked at my community. There is one registered offender who legally had to be grandfathered because he was there before the rule was put in place. Other than that, my community's map is offender-free, and will stay that way.

I think you need to qualify that remark, Quirky, that your community is "registered sex offender free". Please see my post #58 to senior.

I don't think it makes any sense to compare a colossal retirement community to a small home town. People from all backgrounds gravitate to the retirement community, so there's a higher concentration of everything here.
