Agree ! While caution is always the key, a 70 something female, considering the villages for a permanent home, may feel very "alone" (people differ) in a hotel room; where staying for a short period with another female of similar age, could result in a much more realistic experience of everyday life, than a hotel room experience with a villages sales person only. And, as someone pointed out, being invited in the mornings, to share a cup of coffee and the previous day's impressions of The Villages could result in a good friendship should the person decide this is the place for them ! Also: could work out to be more affordable; a month in a hotel, even at a reduced rate, can be much more costly than paying for an extra bedroom in someone's home. Might not seem such a "big deal" to some, but think about the expense should the person be considering a number of retirement communities in several states ! Have a cousin with only ONE pension who settled on a community similar to the V's but in another state. Just the air fare alone really dug into her down payment as she investigated possible locations. I think many times people are sincere in their answers and attempts to give helpful advice, but they often do not think beyond their own financial status. Don't think this is purposeful "tone deafness", but a tendency to never consider people's circumstances differ so widely. A single person on their own to chose a retirement area, could have substantial financial assets, yet not be particularly "brave" about traveling and staying alone ! ?
